General Statement The College of Letters and Science (CLS), the largest center for learning, teaching and research at Montana State University, offers students an excellent liberal arts and sciences education in nearly 50 majors, 25 minors and over 25 graduate degrees within the four areas of the humanities, social sciences, natural and physical sciences, and mathematics and social sciences.

The Assistant Dean for Student Success and Outreach works closely with the Dean as a key member of the college leadership team, leading initiatives for student success in the College of Letters & Science. The Assistant Dean directly impacts the student experience and will oversee and coordinate recruitment and retention efforts, program assessment, student engagement, communications, scholarships, and awards. Duties and Responsibilities Serve on College leadership team. Lead local, regional, national and international recruitment efforts for the College, in collaboration with the Dean, Associate Deans, and Department Heads, as well as the Office of Admissions. Build and sustain a college-wide commitment to access and student success. Represent CLS with key constituencies and university offices related to student success, including CLS Ambassadors, honors societies and coordination with the Honors College, other colleges, University and First Year Seminar programs, Financial Aid, and the Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success. Oversee college scholarships in close collaboration with MSU Foundation, including managing the College of Letters & Science Scholarship Committee and the corresponding CatScholarship database. Establish and maintain student support services, programs, and activities. Serve as CLS liaison for all student help centers and services, including the Writing Center, the Mathematics Help Center, and other departmental help centers. Direct the CLS Student Ambassador Program. Partner with MSU Advising Commons on coordination of CLS advising efforts. Coordinate and represent the College of Letters & Science in summer orientation programming, MSU Friday events and other special recruitment and orientation events. Oversee recruitment and retention outreach efforts, including printed materials, websites, and social media; serve as point person for CLS communications. Lead committee to evaluate and rank proposals for the College Student Travel Grants program. Monitor, evaluate and appropriately disseminate data, metrics and statistics as they relate to the College’s key performance indicators, to student success and to College operations in collaboration with the Office of Planning and Analysis. Assist with policies and procedures relating to student support and conduct, including FERPA, plagiarism, disciplinary issues, disabilities, suspensions, course appeals, and other issues as they may arise, in concert with the Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Programs. Participate with the Dean’s office in event planning. Serve as the College representative to Assistant Deans Council. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Master’s degree in a relevant field appropriate to the duties and responsibilities of the position, or equivalent demonstrated professional experience. Demonstrated experience in student recruitment, retention, advising, and/or student success efforts in a higher education setting, or equivalent experience focused on student success and retention efforts. Demonstrated experience developing Communications efforts, such as recruitment materials, websites, printed materials, etc. Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Doctorate in a relevant field. Professional experience in a field represented by the College of Letters & Science. Demonstrated success in student recruitment and high school engagement programs.
