The purpose position is threefold: (a) to study the role of copper in neurodegenerative diseases and mammalian copper metabolism in general, (b) to develop new tools for elemental imaging using x-ray fluorescence microscopy, and (c) to work in the University shared resource Elemental Analysis Core for the Ralle lab.

Function/Duties of Position Operates the ICPMS (with supervision)Performs basic instrument maintenance tasks (under supervision)Operates the instrument softwarePrepares client samples for ICPMS analysisAnalyzes ICPMS data, creates Excel reportCommunicates with clientsPlans, conducts and completes mammalian cell culture experiments. Grows, manipulates, harvests, and analyzes cell cultures. Performs immunoblotting and immunofluorescence on cells. Analyzes cells for elemental content in bulk and using x-ray fluorescence microscopy. Assists in data analysis and writing reports and publicationsPlans, conducts, and completes mammalian tissue and cell preparation homogenization with subsequent organelle isolation via fractionation. Analyzes elemental and protein content of resulting fraction. Analyzes tissue for elemental content in bulk and distribution using x-ray fluorescence microscopy. Assists in data analysis and writing reports and publications. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's with relevant coursework; OR

Associates in relevant field; OR 

1 year of relevant experience; OR

Equivalent skills set or combination of skills, education, experience

Proficient with MS office products. Working knowledge of excel spreadsheets.

Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree (4 yr.) in Chemistry/biochemistry/biology.Mammalian cell culture, basic immuno- and fluorescence skills, basic knowledge in quantitative elemental analysis.Experience with ICPMS

Trace metal metabolism, interests in bioanalytical chemistry with focus trace metal metabolism
