Assistant Controller
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our team in Roseland, New Jersey. This role is central to maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing accounting operations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings expertise in financial reporting, cash management, and team leadership. Responsibilities: • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards. • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliations. • Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets, long-term financial plans, and forecasts to support organizational goals. • Oversee cash flow management to ensure sufficient funding for operational and project needs. • Coordinate and facilitate internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline accounting processes and workflows, implementing best practices where applicable. • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment. • Support special projects, including financial analysis for property acquisitions, lease reviews, and other ad hoc initiatives. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification is a plus. • At least 5 years of accounting experience, with 2 or more years in commercial real estate or property accounting; public accounting experience is desirable. • Proficiency in accounting software such as Yardi or comparable systems, along with advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP). • Strong understanding of accounting principles and operational accounting practices specific to the real estate industry. • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across teams. • Solutions-oriented mindset, capable of meeting deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
