Assistant Controller
Job Description PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT Assists with financial activities of the Member Cooperative, compiles, and maintains records of quantity, type, value of material, equipment, merchandise, or supplies. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Evaluates office production, revises procedures, or devises new forms to improve efficiency of work flow Formulates procedures for systematic retention, protection, retrieval, transfer, and disposal of records Prepares activity and financial reports for the guidance of management which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations Prepares reports required by the government and regulatory agencies Applies the depreciation rates that apply to capital assets Implements operational adjustments due to tax code revisions Prepares budget for areas of responsibility Assists with arrangements for audits of company accounts Responsible for receipt, disbursement, banking, protection and custody of funds, securities, and financial instruments Implements policies and procedures for account collections and extension of credit to customers Counts material, equipment, merchandise, or supplies in stock and posts totals to inventory records Compares inventories to office records or computes figures from records such as sales orders, production records, or purchase invoices to obtain current inventory Verifies clerical computations against physical count of stock and adjusts errors in computation or count, or investigates and reports reasons for discrepancies Compiles information on receipt or disbursement of material, equipment, merchandise, or supplies, and computes inventory balance, price, and cost Prepares reports such as inventory balance, price lists, and shortages Prepares list of depleted items and recommends survey of defective or unusable items Stocks and issues materials or merchandise Performs all other duties as assigned OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Performs all other duties as assigned Requirements REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance, or the equivalent thereof, and at least 2 years of accounting or finance related experience to demonstrate knowledge of basic accounting principles, organizational and problem-solving skills and proficiency with computer software programs. Demonstrated essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development Must be able to obtain and maintain professional accounting or business designations as required by the Member Cooperative Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
