Desired Start Date Position End Date (if temporary) To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by 11:59pm (MT) on07/15/2025 Description of Work Unit The Colorado State University Department of Athletics sponsors 16 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports and competes as a member of NCAA Division I ( FBS ). The University is a current member of the Mountain West Conference and future member of the Pac-12 Conference. The University is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, 65 miles north of Denver. Position Summary The Assistant Athletic Director for Performance Nutrition oversees the development, implementation and administration of all aspects of a performance nutrition program for the institution’s NCAA Div. I ( FBS ) intercollegiate athletics program which sponsors 16 men’s and women’s sports. Required Job Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition, health/exercise science or nutrition-related field + Minimum of three years of experience in a sports or performance nutrition program + Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist ( RDN ) with active status through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (www.cdrnet.org) + Excellent verbal and written communication skills + Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, athletic trainers, coaches and academic staff regarding on-going issues + Expertise and certification in current literature relating to sport nutrition for high-level athletes + Understanding and knowledge of nutritional and herbal supplements to determine if permissible under NCAA regulations + Knowledge of NCAA rules/regulations and a commitment to the Department’s culture of compliance + Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date Preferred Job Qualifications + Sports nutrition program experience in intercollegiate or professional athletics or sports-related field + Experience with a NCAA Division I ( FBS ) sports-related nutrition program + Ability to collect and analyze data for strategic decision-making related to performance nutrition + Experience in leadership of a sports-related nutrition program + Master’s degree in Nutrition or Nutrition-related field + Board Certified as a Specialist in Sports Dietetics ( CSSD ) + Current CPR , AED and first aid certifications Essential Duties Job Duty CategoryNutritional Counseling, Education, and Outreach Duty/Responsibility + Design individualized nutrition plans based on individual needs or circumstances + Evaluate effectiveness of nutritional strategies toward meeting desired outcomes and maintain current and accurate documentation as it relates to student’s care current with medical privacy standards + Address nutritional challenges to performance with special attention to food allergies, bone mineral density concerns, gastrointestinal disturbances, iron depletion or deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, diabetes, and other nutrition-related medical conditions. + Utilize body composition and nutritional measurements to educate and evaluate student-athletes on maintaining proper body composition consistent with good health and peak performance + Demonstrate an ability to positively influence and motivate student-athletes + Counsel student-athletes on optimal nutrition practices for training, competition, exercise recovery, injury and illness prevention and recovery, hydration, and supplementation + Provide nutritional education and outreach to student-athletes including coordination of cooking classes, grocery store tours, social media and nutritional intervention + Oversee all aspects of performance nutrition and work with designated dining service partners to oversee training table schedule, menus and budgetary oversight. + Work with coaches and the health and performance team to educate and help develop proper pre- and post-game meals, meals while traveling, training table meals and snacks + Work with nutrition and dietetics personnel on campus and in the community + Collaborate with University dining hall staff for food service options and coordinate menu planning and dietary options for SA’s living in residence halls Percentage Of Time35 Job Duty CategoryCollaboration with Health and Performance Staff Duty/Responsibility + Lead the performance nutrition unit in working proactively with other members of the Health and Performance staff in the overall development and well-being of student-athletes including collaborating on welfare issues such as injury prevention, physical and mental health, nutrition, recovery from injury, athletic performance, academic performance, etc. + Work with team physicians and athletics department’s disordered eating taskforce in order to recognize, evaluate and provide early intervention of disordered eating + Coordinate nutritional care and maintain open, on-going communication with sport coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, sports medicine staff and team physicians Percentage Of Time10 Job Duty CategoryProgram Management Duty/Responsibility + Lead, coordinate and oversee the Department’s training table program, fueling station, supplementation and hydration programs including evaluation, recommendation, purchasing, receiving and distribution of dietary/nutritional supplements, including herbal supplements, for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy consistent with NCAA regulations and athletic department policies and procedures + Develop programs for interns, volunteers and practicum students + Establish and maintain productive channels of communication with coaching staff + Oversee development of policy and procedures relative to nutritional education, weight and body composition management, use of dietary supplements, fueling for performance, injury and illness prevention and hydration Percentage Of Time35 Job Duty appearance of facility for recruiting purposes + Assist with recruiting visits of prospective student-athletes + Oversee sports dietitian(s), students, interns and/or graduate assistants + Adhere to medical directives of the team physicians + Maintain an environment of mutual respect and civility in the fueling station that is conducive to a supportive, productive and healthy atmosphere for both
