Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Manages assignment desk staff to find relevant, compelling news content for digital and linear platformsDecides daily broadcast and digital content, assign crews & manages field crews’ workflow and live logistics throughout dayWorks with reporters, photographers, producers to determine story selection, elements and backup ideasKeeps team informed of developments throughout dayListens to scanners, answers phones and emails, researches and vets out pitches to determine what makes a great storyCoordinates live shots and content sharing with affiliatesRepresents and enforces station policy in resolution of situations that may ariseMaintains various station accounts used by the desk for gathering and confirmation informationBe involved in long-term planning of stories and news eventsPerforms other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism is preferred; market knowledge is preferredFluency in EnglishExtensive knowledge of editorial standards, ethics and media lawHave superior organizational skills; be an effective communicator, both oral and writtenBe nimble with technology, have thorough knowledge of newsroom & field workflow Demonstrate excellent leadership and motivational skillsMust be able to manage under extreme pressure in a fast-paced environmentBe able to operate as a team member as well as a team leaderAble to take suggestions, participate in decision-making, and be flexible in recognizing various points of viewInteract productively with other employees of the station
