FOX 26 in Houston is hiring an Assignment Editor who will embrace our rapid transformation into a digital first news hub. You’ll be at the heart of content generation, gathering, verifying, and disseminating information, video, live pictures, and other visual assets from across Houston and around the world to our various distribution channels.
You will coordinate teams of content creators, including reporters and photographers as they maneuver across our region, ensuring they’re covering the most important and most relevant stories to our audiences. You’ll leverage multiple sources throughout the day, including social media pages and profiles, viewer emails and phone calls, contacts you build independently, as well as data-driven trends to identify compelling content.
As an Assignment Editor you will be a logistics guru, directing field crews to breaking news, communicating changes and movements to our digital and producing teams and coordinating coverage of big stories with other FOX Television Stations, FOX News Edge and FOX Weather.
The Ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional multi-tasking skills while maintaining a calm demeanor under pressure, ensuring effective communication and task management in dynamic environments. In this role, you also may appear on-camera in the newsroom during live streaming news hours linear broadcasts, or on our social media platforms to share urgent breaking news as it happens.
You don’t need to be a newsroom veteran for this role, but you do need to have a demonstrated understanding of how non-traditional audiences are consuming content outside of linear television norms. On-camera presence is helpful, but an authentic voice and presentation style will elevate our interest. A college degree in journalism or a related field focused on digital content creation is required.
The ideal candidate has familiarity with newsroom computer systems, Slack, Chartbeat or similar real-time analytics platforms, graphics programs and video editing software. Openness to flexible scheduling, shifts may include nights, early mornings, or weekends, as well as overtime and holidays. Houston experiences severe weather year-round and frequent wall-to-wall breaking news events. All staff must be available to work on site or in the field when scheduled during high-impact news events or local emergency situations.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $27.37-29.37 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents.
