Purpose of PositionAssembles, disassembles, modifies, or repairs precision mechanical instruments or mechanical assemblies of electromechanical or electronic instruments.
Tasks and Responsibilities Positions parts according to knowledge of unit or following blueprints. Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, other fasteners, and/or bonding agents. Removes small quantities of metal with hand tools to produce close fit between parts. Assembles parts in assembly jigs as needed. Fits and installs precision components in instrument housing. Verifies dimensions of parts and installation of components. Installs wiring and electrical components to specifications. Operates drill presses, manual presses, or manual lathes to assist in assembly operation. Test mechanical functional performance of assembly. Performs electrical/electronic tests as required. Recommend assembly fixtures. Assemble prototypes, work directly with Engineering, Graphic Arts and the machine shop to aid with new designs. Aid in the training of new employees. Minimum EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum ExperienceMinimum of 8 years of experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Windows and OutlookStandard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines. Use of hand tools of all types, sanders, drill press, saws, grinders, drill motors, soldering iron, heat gun, micrometers, calipers. Ability to read/interpret detailed blue prints and schematics. Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
