ASL Interpreting Internship

Context Global Internship Program 2024-2025

Objectives:

-To provide mentees with opportunities to observe and interpret in the field.

-To match mentees with certified/qualified interpreters in different fields such as education, government, community, etc.

-To create a pipeline from student to working interpreter.

-To support the growth of mentees by creating an individualized track tailored to each mentee, including weekly check-ins and monthly evaluations.

At Context Global we think mentoring is one of the best ways to support the future generation of interpreters. With that thought in mind we’ve created a program that is tailored to fit the needs of each individual mentee.

The program will begin with a screening evaluation via zoom, both expressive and receptive, by the Internship Coordinator. Each video picked will have pre-identified parameters that are expected to be interpreted. These parameters are there to help us create a monthly schedule of deliberate goals the mentee will focus on during the program. Once the screening evaluation is done the mentee will receive a comprehensive plan detailing the areas of improvement identified, how they will be addressed, and an appropriate timeline.

With the screening evaluation complete and a plan of improvement in place we will assign you a Lead Mentor. You will work consistently with your Lead Mentor in the educational field. There will be opportunities to explore other fields and work with different interpreters, but your Lead Mentor will be your go-to for everyday questions. Additionally, you will have weekly zoom check-ins with the Internship Coordinator and monthly meetings with all mentees and mentors to share experiences across the program. The monthly meetings will include zoom meetings, in-person meetings, and quarterly happy hours. We understand that each mentee's skill level will be different. With our program, skills will improve over time. We will provide the opportunity to re-screen with the Internship Coordinator and ASL Manager every 3 months, with the possibility of employment if qualified. Context Global will also reimburse mentees up to $100 for professional development workshops throughout the internship term.

Context Global’s internship program is created to support the next generation of interpreters. Our mission is to improve your skills and provide tools to meet your goals, mentoring you to secure your dream job, and empowering confidence and success once you’re in the field.
