Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
Key job responsibilities
We are looking for a Sr. ASIC Sustaining Engineer who will drive technical alignment between design teams, manufacturing partners, and quality engineering to optimize ASIC manufacturability and yields at unprecedented scale.
The ideal candidate is a systems thinker with excellent analytical abilities, technical skills, effective written and verbal communication, and most importantly, a passion for developing outsourced assembly and test (OSAT) suppliers to produce high-quality, mission-critical hardware in high volume production.
-Develop and execute Amazon Kuiper custom ASIC supply chain operations strategies to support high-volume satellite production while ensuring quality, cost efficiency, delivery and risk mitigation
-Partner with engineering and quality teams to implement engineering production changes and influence ASIC design decisions that impact supply chain resilience
- Lead cross-functional programs to qualify second source components and manufacturing processes
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives for ASIC assembly and final test to optimize production efficiency
- Travel as needed to accomplish program objectives
Export Control Requirement:
This position may require access to information, technology, or hardware that is subject to export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Employment in this position is contingent upon obtaining any required export licenses or other approvals from the United States government. As such, the successful candidate must be eligible to obtain any necessary export licenses or approvals based on their nationality, citizenship, and any other factors considered by the applicable export regulations.
About the team
The Kuiper ASIC Sustaining team is driven to develop a vendor base capable of scaling aerospace quality to new volume and cost levels in order to meet end customer needs. This position will join the team at an exciting moment with the opportunity to own technical operations and manufacturing for key categories and contribute to the design of requirements and systems used across the business. We value data driven decision making, a comfort with ambiguity across multiple simultaneous projects, an ability to earn the trust of our key stakeholders, and delivering results without sacrificing integrity.
Basic Qualifications
• BS or MS degree in electrical engineering, materials science and engineering, applied physics or related fields.
• 7+ years of experience in ASIC OSAT Technical operations management, manufacturing, testing or failure analysis.
• Knowledge and experience in statistics fundamentals and data analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications
• 10+ years of experience managing quality of OSAT suppliers
• Knowledge of semiconductor assembly and test manufacturing processes
• Out of the box thinking
• Experience with distributed systems at scale
• Ability to work independently and ensure timely and accurate communication between the Kuiper and our Supplier
• Good understanding of manufacturing strategy and DFMA best practices
• - Experience with Statistical Analysis Software
