Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025. MSNBC Digital is seeking an experienced art director to lead our art and photo department. This critical role is responsible for shaping, maintaining, and evolving MSNBC Digital’s visual identity across all platforms. Reporting to the Senior Executive Editor, the Art Director will collaborate closely with photo editors, illustrators, reporters, and editors. The ideal candidate brings a strong design sensibility, strategic thinking, and the ability to both lead and inspire creative teams. They will be hands-on in pitching, designing, and commissioning impactful visuals that elevate our stories and deepen audience engagement.   This position is based in NY. Key Responsibilities: + Lead creative development across MSNBC.com and our digital platforms + Execute a visuals staffing plan for the MSNBC Digital newsroom  + Ensure all work meets brand standards and campaign goals + Collaborate with editorial and photo teams to align on strategy and execution + Oversee special projects  + Source and manage external creative talent as needed  + 5+ years of design or art direction experience in news and entertainment, streaming, or agency environments + Strong portfolio showcasing conceptually and visually driven work + Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; knowledge of both off-air and on-air design + Detail-oriented, organized, and adept at managing multiple priorities + Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills + Strong leadership and collaboration skills; passion for mentoring and team development + Must have a broad knowledge and curiosity about news, and a keen eye for spotting interesting and newsworthy visual content + Understanding of journalism ethics, image copyright and digital licensing + Understanding and appreciation of the MSNBC brand and mission + Experience working with political news preferred + A portfolio of relevant work is required for consideration.
