We are seeking an Area Safety Manager to support our locations in Michigan, Ohio, Alberta, and Ontario.

Job Summary:

The Area Safety Manager position is responsible for overseeing safe operations across multiple sites, leading a team of Safety and Training Supervisors. This position is a subject matter expert and will coordinate with the field management to improve safety processes and provides leadership and direction for our safety program. This role focuses on the development, management and implantation of safety strategies and objectives. The primary responsibility is to manage and guide the safety team ensuring compliance with local, state and federal transportation regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership: Lead and manage a team of Safety and Training Managers, providing direction and support to ensure high-quality safety and training delivery.Strategy Development: Developing and implementing student and/or customer safety awareness programs.Training Oversight: Assist in the development of location management and collaborate in training new Safety Committees.Safety Oversight: Work with the Area Safety Director and Operations Management to ensure company safety standards are deployed in accordance with company policies. Assist management in the administration of the location’s safety program and performance metrics. Compliance and Safety: Collaborate with the location team to ensure employee compliance with Federal/State regulations and Company requirements. Assist with program audits as required by Company policy and Federal/State audits or inspections. Performance Evaluation: Assist the location team on employee coaching, providing feedback and/or recognition, analyze the effectiveness of location coaches, and support for continues improvement.Coordination with Management: Assist location team with investigating customer service concerns related to safety issues and take necessary action. Assist with the administering and the maintenance of pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing program.Documentation: Assist location management on responding to work-related injuries and vehicle accidents, incidents, completing on-scene investigations, and preparing/submitting corresponding reports to our third-party administrator (TPA) and develop prevention plans based on loss data and cause analysis.Travel: Travel up to 30% - 50% of the time to multiple site locations to conduct site visits and ensure consistency in safety training standards.Ethics: Exhibits the highest ethical best practices and personal integrity; Shares concerns about suspicious or inappropriate behavior with their supervisor or manager. Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred3 years of Safety experience in student transportation industry is preferredSupervisory experience required; experience supervising/training a driver’s workforce preferredMust complete the state certification program or Durham’s Training Academy for School Bus Instructors, equivalent work experience as a Trainer can be substituted as appropriateCommercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements is preferredInnovative classroom training skills with working knowledge of adult training techniquesComputer literacy skills including strong working knowledge of MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and other business applicationsStrong leadership skills and interpersonal skillsStrong organizational and group presentation skillsWell-developed multi-tasking and time management skillsAbility to provide direction, coaching and mentoring to employees while creating an environment that encourages, and values input and feedbackAbility to respond to unanticipated events to ensure excellence in customer service.Ability to Investigate claims and incidents of questionable conduct, accidents etc.
