Purpose of the role

The Area Planning Manager is responsible for overseeing planning activities within a defined area of large, complex projects. This role ensures effective schedule development, integration, monitoring, and reporting to support successful project delivery in line with Worley’s purpose of delivering a more sustainable world. By applying advanced planning expertise, leadership, and systems knowledge, the Area Planning Manager enables proactive decision-making and ensures projects remain on track to meet customer and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Lead planning and scheduling activities for an assigned project area, ensuring alignment with overall project execution strategies and sustainability goals.

Develop, integrate, and maintain detailed project schedules, including work breakdown structures and activity sequencing.

Monitor progress and performance against schedule baselines, analyzing variances and providing corrective action recommendations.

Collaborate with project managers, cost control teams, and other stakeholders to ensure consistency between cost, schedule, and resource planning.

Identify and communicate potential risks, delays, or opportunities within the assigned area, ensuring timely visibility for decision-making.

Support the preparation and delivery of schedule-related reports, presentations, and updates to management, clients, and stakeholders.

Provide leadership and mentorship to area planners and schedulers, encouraging knowledge sharing, collaboration, and professional development.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of planning processes, tools, and systems to enhance project efficiency and sustainability outcomes.

Act as a key point of contact for planning matters within the assigned area, ensuring effective communication and alignment with overall project objectives.

*Qualifications / Skill set

University degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Extensive experience in project planning and scheduling within large-scale energy, chemicals, or resources projects.

Advanced knowledge of scheduling methodologies, tools, and software, with proven ability to integrate planning with cost and resource management systems.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess project performance, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions.

Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to guide, develop, and motivate a team of planning professionals.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.

Skilled in translating strategic objectives into practical schedules that drive execution efficiency and sustainability outcomes.

Proven decision-making ability in complex project environments, balancing technical, commercial, and customer priorities.
