Job Description

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to our Arlington plant location

This position may offer relocation assistance.

The Role:

In this role, you will lead and direct manufacturing departmental operations or plant operations. Exercise a substantial amount of creativity, perception and initiative with a significant latitude for independent judgment and action. Manage a large group of hourly and salaried employees over multiple shifts. You will have immediate responsibility over people leaders in manufacturing operations, and the execution of plant business processes. Assure that organizational or divisional production objectives are achieved at the lowest cost consistent with quality requirements. Delegate responsibilities to key area managers within production operations. You will also be responsible for meeting production schedules as well as meeting departmental/plant budget in addition to the following.

A senior manager responsible for a distinct area of the business, directly responsible for formulating business strategies for the organization they are a part of.  Typically leads other managers (sometimes individual contributors) providing clear strategy and direction to those on their team. 

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

- Has deep knowledge of organizational practices and versatile management experience across different teams and areas within the function and sometimes across different functions.
- Owns a distinct business area within the function or organization. Uses independent judgment to make professional and managerial decisions and drives the achievement of results by leading team(s) on execution of these plans.
- Drives development of policies and processes within the area they manage, ensuring best practices are identified, assessed, and integrated as appropriate.  Advises senior leadership on processes and products that have a direct impact on the organization results.

- Collaborates with executive management in the development of strategic plans and objectives and translates them into actionable strategies and operational plans for the team(s) managed, reprioritizing and reallocating resources as appropriate based on changing business needs. Guides the team on resolving complex issues and situations. Plays a significant role in developing the long-term strategy for the area managed, contributing to the overall functional and organizational strategy.
- Develops plans for people resources and ensures that team members are continuing to grow their skills and competencies. Has continued career discussions with their team and knows where to allocate resources based on unique strengths of everyone on the team.
- Engages with senior management, executives, and/or major customers to negotiate matters that impact the function. Aligns multiple stakeholder perspectives to achieve agreement on extremely complex issues. Manages the successful resolution of conflicts across the area they lead and or support.
- Applies experience and knowledge to preserve effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of organization in complex communication situations that might be sensitive and conflicting in nature.

- Works together with senior management on developing and implementing strategic plans and objectives. Is fully accountable for delivery of complete operational plans and their effectiveness. Provides longer-term perspective to and often leads critical projects with cross-functional visibility and impact.
- Builds and manages large teams, often teams of teams, with the optimal mix of talent and experience. Makes internal and external staffing decisions, supports, and guides individual development of direct reports and their teams, drives performance. Champions large-scale change management and role models GM’s behaviors necessary to maintain a productive team without inhibiting individuality and personal diversity.
- Their impact goes well beyond their own department. Develops, plans, and owns the delivery of critical Key Performance Indicators and Key Strategic Initiatives (through subordinate managers and employees) that directly impact function results and support GM business strategy.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):Minimum 10 years of Management/Leadership experience within a Manufacturing/Assembly Plant environmentExceptional people skills ; ability to develop relationshipsStamping experienceBachelor’s degree in ManufacturingStrong analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficultProven technical and professional skills in job-related areaHigh level of oral/written communication and interpersonal skills to work optimally with othersDetailed understanding of mechanical concepts.Preferred Qualifications:Experience/knowledge of GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS)Knowledge of continuous improvement processes (CIP)

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
