PURPOSE
Responsible for managing the people, work, and processes for multiple design departments within an Area. Leverages design resources by planning work and capacity within the area and ensures output from Design teams meets or exceeds company standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Travels within the area as necessary to interface with multiple design departments. Manages the Design Managers and leads the design function, ensuring processes and work results meet/exceed company standards. Conducts performance management reviews for Design Managers and solicits additional feedback from regional management. Distributes and coordinates work between multiple design departments. Leverages design resources by sharing work and capacity within the region as needed. Verifies that the design departments within the region work within the established company standards for truss design. Communicates with the company Director of Truss Design and the Region Manufacturing Director on a regular basis regarding the status of design capacity or any related issues. Reviews and tests upcoming truss software versions prior to release. Coordinates new software version updates to insure all design departments are using the correct version of the software. Reviews design department engineering software settings. Makes sure these settings match the company specified settings. Coordinates any exceptions with the Director of Truss Design and Region Manufacturing Director. Monitors all design departments usage of company truss pricing and management systems. Does training where needed to improve or modify usage standards. Assists Design Managers with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training employees and handling employee relations issues. Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages assigned employees including staff selection and training; planning, assigning, reviewing, and directing work; conducting performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 6-8 years of directly related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous managerial experience required. Mitek Truss Software experience required.
COMPETENCIES
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
