Architect 2 - Nuclear City Chicago State IL Country United States Area of Interest Architecture Type Full Time - Regular Job ID 2025-18318 Business Group Nuclear Power Group Department Structural and Civil Engineering Description Work on challenging assignments with an internationally recognized architectural/engineering firm that includes industrial, commercial and laboratory projects while focusing on power and power related projects, which include from time to time, first-of-a-kind projects with unique requirementsProjects include a wide variety of power plant projects, related administration and security facilities, industrial projects, laboratories, and commercial facilitiesProjects include working with diverse clients including National Laboratories to implement designs that include emerging technologies and new carbon-free energy sourcesCoordinate the architectural design with other disciplines, such as civil, structural, HVAC, fire protection, electrical, mechanical and plumbingWith guidance from more senior architects and designers, develop and interpret the design criteria and architectural designProvide suggestions to modify architectural design features to meet a variety of situationsPresent architectural design recommendations and proposals to staff and clientsAssist in the preparation of 3D electronic design models and final construction documents for buildings and equipment enclosuresWith guidance from more senior architects, assist in conducting code analysis for our projectsWith guidance from more senior architects, assist in conducting analysis for energy code compliance associated with architectural designsReview and coordinate vendor submittals for conformity with construction documentsDevelop your career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge by way of S&L’s system of processes and associated “Communities of Practice” Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:

Professional BA and 1 years of experience or MA in Architecture from an accredited programProficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT is required.Proficiency in MicroStation is a plusExperience with alternative 3D software and Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a plusWorking knowledge of building and life safety codes, such as IBC, IECC, NFPA, ADAAG, OSHAWorking knowledge of materials and details used in commercial, institutional, and industrial building systems, including insulated metal wall and roof systems, built-up and elastomeric roofing systems, metal stud framing systems, CMU wallsWorking knowledge in reviewing design drawings created by othersOccasional travel may be required

Valued but not required skills and experience:

Experience in developing detailed 3D models and 3D REVIT FamiliesExperience in working with software to develop photorealistic representations and renderingsNCARB Certification Award-Winning Benefits
