**Your Opportunity**
Stantec is seeking an Archaeologist with demonstrated experience in the archaeology of Ohio, Michigan, and/or adjacent states, and with geospatial technologies. This is a career opportunity for an archaeologist specializing in geospatial data collection and manipulation strategies to support a growing cultural resources team for a leading environmental consulting firm. This team provides Section 106/NEPA analyses, technical studies, and project permitting for a wide variety of private and federal, state, and local government clients in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions of the United States.
The individual will provide geospatial support for cultural resource investigations for a variety of clients and sectors including work in the utilities industry (power and gas), transportation, renewable energy, and local governments, assist senior staff with project management and completion, provide successful and independent management of project data, and translate complex spatial data into clear and insightful deliverables.
Work will predominantly consist of a typical office environment; working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Travel may be required in some instances, and fieldwork may consist of field data collection, monitoring, soil profile description, artifact analyses, preparation of detailed field notes and archaeological site records. You must be able and willing to work outdoors in remote locations and for extended periods under all weather conditions, often traversing rugged terrain. Must demonstrate awareness for workplace safety; and be willing to work independently when conditions are appropriate or with limited supervision.
**Your Key Responsibilities**
+ Archaeologist with geospatial specialization for cultural resource investigations for a variety of clients and sectors including work in the utilities industry (power and gas), transportation, renewable energy, and local governments.
+ Design, and generate impactful maps, tables, and other visual products to effectively convey current research and to support and strengthen project documentation and reporting
+ Coordinate the creation, review, and editing of spatial data.
+ Conduct comprehensive investigations for both private sector clients and government agencies
+ Take initiative to identify and resolve errors and inconsistencies in project data.
+ **Work closely and** communicate effectively with colleagues across different specializations and departments to guarantee data accuracy and achieve project goals.
+ **Identify and integrate diverse data sources** for spatial data development and management.
+ Utilize GIS and GPS technology to enable accurate and meaningful field data collection.
+ Participate in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
+ Provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to more junior staff
+ Apply technical and common-sense methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues.

+ Proven ability to leverage GIS technology to facilitate project management and strategic decision-making.
+ Resourceful and detail-oriented with a proven track record of implementing effective research designs, conducting meaningful analysis, and translating findings into practical recommendations.
+ Ability to comprehend and interpret complex documents and figures.
+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
+ Proficiency in working with a **variety of geospatial data types** , including parcel data, SHPO GIS datasets, historical USGS topographic maps, historical aerial photographs, satellite imagery, digitized legacy maps, and complex utility and transit diagrams.
+ Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
+ Strong knowledge of archaeological methods and theory.
+ Professional writing, problem solving, and communication skills.
+ Ability to build and maintain productive professional and personal networking relationships.
+ Willingness to continuously improve technical performance.
+ Champions new ideas and initiatives, creates an environment that supports creativity and innovation.
+ Self-awareness of technical and/or professional abilities and the ability to determine when assistance from senior staff is needed.

+ Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
**Education and Experience**
Required:
+ Bachelor’s degree in anthropology/archaeology or a related discipline from an accredited university.
+ Minimum of 5 years and preferably 10 or more years of progressively responsible cultural resource management positions.
+ Minimum of 5 years and preferably 10 or more years of progressively responsible GIS experience with the ArcGIS Software Suite (ArcGIS Pro, Desktop, ArcGIS Online).
+ Demonstrated experience in all stages of map production and demonstrated expertise in translating complex spatial data into clear and insightful deliverables.
+ Experience and proficiency with digital data collection techniques and their application within the context of archaeological investigations.
+ Experience and proficiency with MS Office Suite products
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
+ Experience with routine state and federal agency communications and coordination.
+ Experience leading and managing cultural resource investigations in the Midwest region of the US.
+ Experience working with Tribal consulting parties and observers.

**Pay Transparency:** In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
