Aquatics Supervisor

Position Summary: The Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and coordination of all aquatic operations and programming at the Hunterdon Health and Wellness Centers. This includes direct management of lifeguards and swim instructors, supervision of group and private swim lesson programs, and ensuring strict compliance with the New Jersey State Bathing Code. The role is instrumental in maintaining a safe, member-focused aquatics environment, fostering staff development, and supporting organizational goals related to program quality, financial sustainability, and membership growth. The Aquatics Supervisor also acts as the primary liaison with the Hunterdon County Board of Health on all aquatics-related matters.
Primary Responsibilities: Staff Supervision & Development ? Supervise all aquatic personnel, providing regular feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations. ? Ensure adequate staffing coverage through effective hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and shift adjustments. ? Lead quarterly staff safety training, maintain up-to-date training manuals, and support staff credentialing and continuing education. ? Serve as a mentor to staff, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and accountability.
Swim Program Management ? Oversee all aspects of the group swim lesson program, ensuring curriculum quality, instructor preparedness, and consistent communication with parents. ? Coordinate private swim lesson requests, matching members with appropriate instructors and maintaining scheduling accuracy.
? Monitor program performance and implement enhancements to improve member satisfaction and engagement.
Lifeguard Operations ? Recruit, hire, and schedule lifeguards to ensure safe and consistent pool coverage during all operational hours. ? Monitor lifeguard certifications and ensure timely completion of all required renewals. ? Conduct regular in-water performance checks and spot evaluations to uphold safety standards.
Facility Safety & Compliance ? Maintain compliance with the NJ State Bathing Code and act as the lead contact during Board of Health inspections. ? Conduct regular inventory of pool supplies, monitor chemical levels, and collaborate with maintenance for facility upkeep. ? Ensure timely documentation and reporting of all safety or compliance-related matters.
Member Service & Program Growth ? Support initiatives related to membership retention and program development, aligning aquatics offerings with community needs and financial objectives. ? Maintain visibility on the pool deck by personally covering at least one lifeguard shift per facility.
Qualifications: Education: ? Required: High School Diploma or equivalent ? Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Recreation Management, Exercise Science, or related field
Experience: ? Required: ? 2+ years of customer service experience ? 2+ years in aquatics, recreation, or program management ? Proven experience hiring, scheduling, and supervising staff ? Preferred: ? Background in swim instruction, youth programming, or water safety training
Licenses/Certifications: ? Required: ? Lifeguard Certification with CPR/AED and First Aid (must be completed within 60 days of hire) ? Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or ability to obtain within 90 days ? Preferred: ? Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or similar aquatic teaching certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ? Proficient in staff scheduling and aquatic facility management tools ? Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills ? Effective communicator with experience in mentoring and team development ? Familiarity with state and local health regulations related to aquatic environments ? Commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive, and safe programming for all ages
