Applied Scientist, Policy & Consumer Research
**About The Role** Are you an avid data storyteller? Intrigued by the decisions consumers make in their day to day lives around transportation and delivery? A believer in the potential for Uber to improve people's lives and the cities they live in? Uber's Policy & Consumer Research team is the place for you! Our team provides data and research support for Uber's Global Policy, Communications, and Marketing (PCM) organization, and we're looking for our next Applied Scientist. Working in concert with survey researchers, public policy experts, and Operations and Marketing leadership, this role will help us better understand who our consumers are, how and why they use Uber's products, and ultimately better tell Uber's story to the public. For some examples of our broader team's work, check out the Uber Under The Hood blog: https://medium.com/uber-under-the-hood Applications that include a cover letter or a brief, specific statement of interest in the role along with the resume will receive extra attention. **What You'll Do** + Partner with PCM stakeholders to produce timely and accurate analyses about Uber's current or potential consumers + Build and maintain sources of truth (e.g., standardized data sets and dashboards) on aggregate user behavior, product use, sustainability impacts, and other topics relevant to policy and marketing stakeholders + Pilot and scale novel consumer segmentation approaches to inform marketing strategies and tactics + Evaluate external research studies on ridesharing's impact on cities and the environment, and engage with vendors and researchers on potential new studies **Basic Qualifications** + Ph.D., M.S. or Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Economics, or other quantitative fields is preferred + Familiarity with Python and SQL **Preferred Qualifications** + Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in a quantitative field + Experience using GIS, Tableau, or similar analytical tools for efficient, large-scale data analysis and visualization + A strong track record leading complex, deep-dive research projects + Excellent data synthesis skills, with the ability to draw insights from disparate data sets (e.g., Census data, surveys, and billions of rows of internal trip and user data) + Strong intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, with a knack for crafting compelling stories and strategic narratives from large datasets + Exceptional cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings for varied audiences + Passion for Uber's mission and its potential to improve livelihoods globally For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$155,000 per year - USD$172,000 per year. You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
