Applied Research Scholar, NYU CSA and UJA-New York
The NYU Center for the Study of Antisemitism (CSA), with the support of the UJA-Federation of New York, invites applications for the position of Applied Research Scholar in Antisemitism Studies beginning November 1, 2025. This is a one-year research position with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. It is a full-time research role, supported by collaborations with NYU faculty, UJA staff and grantees, as well as the Center’s visiting scholars and post-doctoral fellows. The Applied Research Scholar will be co-supervised by the CSA Director of Research and the CSA Low Professor for Community-Engaged Scholarship. The Scholar will spend one day per week at the CSA, participating in the intellectual life of the Center, and three days per week at a placement at UJA Federation of New York. UJA Federation will co-supervise the research project, goals, and management of UJA’s data. The Scholar will lead the research and evaluation work associated with UJA’s grant-making around countering antisemitism. They will conduct literature reviews, analyze quantitative and/or qualitative data, and develop measurement frameworks. They will stay abreast with research and evaluation in the field and share them with UJA staff and the CSA. The Scholar will communicate research findings to a variety of audiences, including non-researchers and philanthropic colleagues. Candidates whose research focuses on any aspect of contemporary antisemitism within the social sciences are welcome to apply, with preference given to candidates with training in survey design and analysis. Successful candidates will have a strong interest in and commitment to applied research that helps to inform and support public- and private sector leaders in addressing antisemitism and advancing civic engagement. They will also have strong written and oral communication skills. Eligible applicants must have completed their PhD or EdD. The Applied Research Scholar will have no formal teaching duties at NYU, but will participate actively in the academic activities of the Center for the Study of Antisemitism and is encouraged to make full use of the scholarly resources available throughout the University, such as those in the Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies, the Taub Center for Israel Studies, the Goldstein Goren Center for American Jewish History, or other relevant programs. The Scholar will make use of a shared workspace at the CSA, and will be able to take advantage of research materials available at the NYU Libraries, the New York Public Library, the Center for Jewish History, and beyond. They will deliver a lecture or lead a workshop at the CSA highlighting the research undertaken over the course of the academic year. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. Full university benefits will be provided. Additional research support will be provided.
