Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Application Engineer Central CN DACH (m/f/d)

Scope of Position:

The Application Engineer (AE) is responsible for representing Corning as a premium product and service provider of passive cabling products. He must demonstrate technical expertise about the application, assembly, and specifications of Corning products in order to provide correct information to our customers quickly and reliably. The Application Engineer will work closely with our customers mainly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and their approved installers to give advice on correct installation methods of Corning product. Additionally, the AE will provide feedback to our customers regarding any concerns observed with installations in the field. Finally, the AE provides troubleshooting support if there are performance problems with installed product.

 

Responsibilities: Provide technical support, training, and presentations of Corning products to end customer, installer, and partners. Advise customers (internal or external) about products and their use in various applications. Explain benefits and determine detailed list of part numbers required for a system solution. Communicate technical advantages/applications of Corning products to customers. Provide pre-sales customer support including product recommendation, system design, system installation training and testing. Provide after-sales support for customer including installation advice and troubleshooting at customer site. Provide field analysis of any faulty product claims. Thoroughly document (report of observations, photos, and data) any claims and forward to appropriate internal colleagues: Manager, Quality team, PLM. Assist local partner and colleagues as needed to ensure installations for end customer meet project timelines. Give feedback to development/PLM (product line management) regarding ideas for product improvement and compliance to regional standards and norms.

 

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

 

Support Corning colleagues (Salesand CSR) and 3rd party Training company with product training, field remediation or part number selection. Confirm delivered product is in compliance with Corning and customer specification.

 

Qualifications: Required Education: University Engineering Degree. Required Years and Area of Experience: Preferred Telecom or Datacom: 2-4 years.

 

Required Skills: Strong computer skills (MS Windows based: Power point, Word, Excel, Visio). Strong English & German writing and speaking skills, additional language is a plus. Ability to convey technical, complex ideas to highly technical customers/colleagues or equally less technically inclined customers/colleagues. Ability to present/give training comfortably and confidently in front of groups from 10-50 people.

 

Desired Skills: Good hand skills: basic mechanical /troubleshooting/ repair skills. FTTH network design.

 

Soft Skills: Ability to work comfortably in a team to support others, learn from others and share information with others. Ability to lead meetings in order to communicate internally the needs of customer at project sites. Ability to listen to customers in order to understand their needs and resolve their problems.

Location:

Position will be based preferred in Berlin HQ, however home office within Germany might be considered.

 

Travel Requirements:

50-60%, Primarily DACH region. However, candidate must be prepared to travel anywhere within EMEA region including Europe and Africa. Flexibility to travel on short notice requiring overnight stay. All travel methods may be used: train, car, bus, ferry, plane. Must have proper Visas to allow unrestricted travel. Candidate must possess current and valid local driving license and clean driving record to allow renting vehicles in other countries if required.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:

Minimum 40-hour week plus travel time as required. Some weekend work or travel required.
