Application Architect - Mainframe
CTG is seeking to fill an Application Architect - Mainframe opening for our client in North Carolina. Location: Remote Duration: 12 months Description: An Application Architect specializing in Mainframe Modernization is an expert in mainframe technologies and modernization strategies. They possess a deep understanding of various modernization approaches, such as in-place modernization and migration of mainframe applications to cloud platforms. This professional is skilled in assessing mainframe client needs, defining strategies, and creating roadmaps for seamless mainframe modernization. They are also adept at recommending and implementing appropriate tools and technologies to ensure a successful transition. In essence, an Application Architect in Mainframe Modernization is a key resource for organizations looking to maintain and enhance their mainframe systems while adapting to modern technological advancements. Duties: Assess client environments and recommend mainframe modernization strategies. Define architecture roadmaps for modernization and migration initiatives. Design, implement, and optimize mainframe solutions for performance, scalability, and security. Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to align modernization strategies with organizational goals. Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to development and operations teams. Evaluate and recommend modernization tools, platforms, and technologies. Oversee migration projects to cloud platforms or hybrid environments. Ensure compliance with security, disaster recovery, and regulatory requirements. Monitor system performance and conduct capacity planning for future growth. Support ongoing operations while implementing modernization enhancements. Skills: IBM z/OS Operating System: installation, configuration, customization, and upgrades. JCL (Job Control Language): creating, debugging, and optimizing batch jobs. System Utilities & Tools: ISPF, TSO, SDSF, REXX, CLIST. System Programming: SMP/E, PARMLIB customization, PROCLIB management. Subsystems Expertise (some of the following): JES2/JES3 (Job Entry Subsystems) RACF/ACF2/Top Secret (Security management) VTAM, TCP/IP (Networking) CICS, IMS, DB2 (middleware/database knowledge a plus) Storage Management: DFSMS, DFHSM, DASD, Tape management. Disaster Recovery/Backup: GDPS, SRDF, FlashCopy, replication tools. Performance & Capacity Management: RMF, SMF, OMEGAMON, Mainview, or similar. Automation Tools: NetView, Tivoli System Automation, OPS/MVS. Experience: Proven experience in mainframe application architecture and modernization. Strong background in system programming and infrastructure management. Hands-on experience with mainframe migration to cloud or hybrid solutions. Expertise in performance tuning, automation, and capacity planning. Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale modernization projects. Experience working with cross-functional business and technical teams. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience). Advanced certifications in mainframe technologies or modernization tools preferred. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
