MSIM is expected to grow profitably by scaling Alternative Businesses. To facilitate scalable growth of the business and expected efficiencies, the Private Alternative Technology Team is making strategic investments through Project Horizon, which is a key MSIM program. This role will be assigned to Private Alternatives Operations and IM Finance technology initiatives to provide technology coverage to Operations, Hedging BU/Capital Markets, Fund Admin Streamlining, Finance, and Firm Risk to implement the target operating model aligned with Project Horizon. The role will be a combination of Senior Developer/Architect and BU facing coordination role to provide direct support in the NY time zone to time-sensitive activities like Hedge Trade bookings and GL Bookings and manage technology changes during NY hours during critical times.
We are seeking for an Application Architect and Full Stack Developer, responsible for designing and architecting large-scale enterprise applications within the financial industry. You will lead the development of distributed and asynchronous applications, utilizing Micro-Services based architecture on both public and private cloud infrastructures. This role requires a deep understanding of core programming languages, cloud services, and modern development frameworks, with a specific focus on financial applications.
What you’ll do in the role:
Design and Architect Large-Scale Enterprise Applications: Lead the design and architecture of complex enterprise applications tailored for the financial industry, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.Develop Distributed and Asynchronous Applications: Oversee the development of distributed and asynchronous applications, leveraging modern technologies and best practices to ensure seamless operation and integration.Implement Micro-Services Based Architecture: Utilize Micro-Services based architecture to create modular, flexible, and scalable applications that can be deployed on both public and private cloud infrastructures.Lead Development Team: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the development team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. Ensure hands-on experience across all technology stacks, including modern UI frameworks and DevOps/CI/CD tools.Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, operations, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless integration of various components and successful project delivery.Ensure Compliance with Financial Industry Regulations: Stay up-to-date with financial industry regulations and standards, ensuring that all applications and systems comply with relevant requirements.Develop and Maintain Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for application architecture, development processes, and best practices to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing within the team.Work on Multiple Divisional Level POCs: Lead and contribute to multiple divisional level Proof of Concepts (POCs) utilizing trailblazing technologies including GenAI and Agentic AI to explore innovative solutions and drive technological advancements.Evaluate New Tools and Frameworks: Continuously evaluate and assess new tools, frameworks, and technologies to determine their potential impact and applicability to the organization's needs. Provide recommendations for adoption and integration into the development process.What you’ll bring to the role:
Extensive Experience in Financial Industry: Proven experience in designing and architecting large-scale enterprise applications within the financial industry, specifically for Private Alternatives and Investment Management.Strong Background in Distributed and Asynchronous Application Development: Expertise in developing distributed and asynchronous applications, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.Proficiency in Micro-Services Based Architecture: In-depth knowledge of Micro-Services based architecture, enabling the creation of modular and scalable applications.Core Programming Skills: Strong programming background in Java, Scala, and Python, with the ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.Exposure to Cloud Services: Experience with cloud services such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Cloud, and Kubernetes, enabling the development of cloud-native applications.Experience with APIs and API Management: Proficiency in working with APIs and API management tools and technologies, ensuring seamless integration and communication between different systems.Hands-On Experience with Modern UI Frameworks and DevOps/CI/CD Tools: Practical experience with modern UI frameworks and DevOps/CI/CD tools, ensuring efficient development, testing, and deployment processes.In-Depth Knowledge of Programming Frameworks: Expertise in programming frameworks such as Spring Boot and Apache Spark, enabling the development of robust and scalable applications.Familiarity with Workflow Tools: Knowledge of workflow tools like n8n, Camunda or UIPath is preferable, enabling the automation of business processes.Advanced SQL Skills: Proficiency in advanced SQL for data manipulation and querying, ensuring efficient data management and analysis.Experience with Containerization and Orchestration: Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration, ensuring efficient deployment and scaling of applications.Knowledge of Security and Access Management: Understanding of security protocols and access management, including oAuth, OIDC, and Key Vaults, ensuring secure application development and deployment.Familiarity with OpenAPI: Experience with OpenAPI for designing and documenting APIs, ensuring clear and consistent API specifications.Familiarity with Gen AI and Agentic AI: Experience with building AI enabled solutions utilizing various state of the art AI frameworks e.g. RAG, Vector DB, OpenAI Integration, AI Agents, Agentic Workflows, MCP Servers and Tools usage etc.Experience with Private Equity, Private Credit, and Real Estate: Preferably proven experience in working with Private Equity, Private Credit, and Real Estate, understanding the unique requirements and challenges of these asset classes.Exposure to FX Hedging and Carried Interests Calculations: Knowledge and experience with FX Hedging and Carried Interests calculations, ensuring accurate financial management and reporting.Excellent Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.Strong Leadership and Communication Skills: Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team.Education and Experience:

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $120,000 and $165,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
