Job Description
This is an onsite position located at Abbott Park. The role involves maintaining the vivarium and support areas through proper execution of assigned tasks, including cleaning and spraying cages, disinfecting and sanitizing equipment, and stocking supplies. The technician will follow department procedures such as cage cleaning, room sanitation, equipment preparation, and cage changes. This role requires direct involvement in animal handling, including carrying and holding animal cages and animals, and using various lab equipment. Responsibilities also include documenting tasks both in writing and electronically as per regulatory standards.
ResponsibilitiesMaintain vivarium and support areas through proper execution of assigned tasks.Perform daily activities such as cleaning and spraying cages, disinfecting and sanitizing equipment, and stocking supplies.Follow department procedures for cage cleaning, room sanitation, equipment preparation, and cage changes.Directly handle animals, carry and hold animal cages, and use lab equipment.Assist with the receiving and housing of research animals, including preparation for housing.Document tasks in both written and electronic formats according to regulatory expectations.Practice good observation skills and attention to detail.Make minor decisions to execute daily responsibilities supporting animal care operations.Apply basic computer skills to maintain regulatory compliance and complete training.Essential SkillsHigh School Diploma requiredProblem-solving ability to handle basic issues autonomouslyAbility to safely lift 50 pounds, and stand and walk for extended periodsWillingness to work a rotating schedule, including mandatory weekend and holiday coverageCompliance with all local, federal, and USDA regulationsGood communication skills and ability to work effectively in a teamAttention to detail for animal welfare2 years of experienceAdditional Skills & QualificationsCertification through AALAS is preferredPrevious animal care experience is preferredWork Environment
The role requires working onsite in a group setting within an animal care facility. The position involves adhering to safety rules and regulations while performing tasks that may include grasping, squeezing, pushing, pulling, squatting, stooping, and bending. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 6 AM to 2:30 PM, with every third weekend required once trained. Candidates should have experience with animals, potentially from environments like pet stores or veterinary clinics.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
