Animal Care Assistant
Title: Animal Care Technician - Main FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Animal Care Reports to: Animal Care Supervisor Job Summary To advance the mission and programs of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) by performing routine animal care, enrichment, facility cleaning, and related duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities + Cultivate positive customer relations through professional, courteous, and educational interactions while actively promoting our mission, services, programs, and events. + Provide daily care and enrichment for animals at ARL Main. + Responsible for regular cleaning of animal housing. + Monitor animals and immediately report health, behavior, or temperament issues to medical staff, behavior staff, or supervisor, as necessary. + Ensure timely data entry including integrity of data in shelter databases, such as Shelter Buddy. + Participate in stress and disease reduction efforts through purposeful and compassionate handling of animals in shelter environment. + Operate laundry, cleaning, dishwashing, and other equipment and report the need for repair or replacement, as appropriate. + Assist in cleaning and maintenance of entire facility and grounds at ARL Main, as directed. + Ensure a safe work environment by following all safety guidelines and modeling safe work practices. + Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to ARL policies and procedures. + Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Duties + N/A Education & Work Experience + High School Diploma or GED, required. + 1 year of experience with animal handling, preferred. + 1 year of work experience in customer service, preferred. Qualifications + Must be able to function in a fast-paced and stressful environment. + Must possess excellent customer service, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills and be able to resolve conflict effectively. + Ability to performance basic mathematical skills. + Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions + Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. + Work may expose employee to odors, diseases of animals that are possibly contagious, bites, scratches, animal waste, and moderate noise level. + Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time. At-Will Employment There is no minimum period of employment guaranteed or implied by acceptance of an employment offer. It is the policy of the Animal Rescue League that employment for this position is at will, which means that employment is for no specific term and that employment may be terminated by the employee or the Animal Rescue League at any time without cause.
