Anesthesia Aide

Description:

The anesthesia aide will be responsible for preparing and maintaining equipment and supplies for surgical cases requiring anesthesia.

Essential Functions

Assists in maintaining a safe anesthesia environment and equipment to ensure the safety of patients and staff. (Customer Service)

Assembles, cleans, and prepares equipment appropriate to the procedure and the age of the patient. (Skills/Technical Knowledge)

Reports equipment malfunctions and unusual incidents to the director, medical director, or the attending anesthesia provider, and notifies BioMed as necessary. (Communication)

Orders and restocks supplies as needed, both on a STAT and routine basis. (Stewardship)

Performs routine clerical tasks to support departmental operations. (Skills/Technical Knowledge / Individual Development)

Assists anesthesia providers with delegated anesthesia-related tasks and meets productivity expectations. (Skills/Technical Knowledge / Individual Development)

Inputs and verifies patient charges daily, ensuring responsible use of hospital resources. (Stewardship)

Demonstrates excellent customer service by anticipating the equipment and supply needs of anesthesia providers. (Customer Service)

Participates in or supports process improvement initiatives that impact patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes, and financial performance. (Quality)

Adapts effectively to the evolving healthcare environment by embracing new technology, processes, and changes while maintaining a calm, positive attitude under pressure. (Adaptability)

Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA regulations at all times.

Provides competent care to patients of all ages by accurately interpreting data, making informed decisions based on knowledge of age-specific development, and adapting care techniques accordingly.

Actively pursues professional development by participating in relevant educational opportunities and departmental programs.

Communicates and performs duties in alignment with the philosophy, Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors of MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center and the Sisters of Mercy.

Supports and complies with all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies and addresses safety concerns in the work environment.

Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor, manager, or department head.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred:

Successful completion of a formal Nurse Aide course or training program (must be verified by transcript or original certificate of completion),
OR

Current enrollment in an A.D.N. or B.S.N. nursing program with:

Successful completion of the first semester of an A.D.N. program, OR

Completion of the first year of nursing courses in a B.S.N. program,
OR

Graduation from an A.D.N., Diploma, B.S.N., or L.P.N. program.
