Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION - PERMANENT. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, Position Description Number NGD0672000 and is part of the Guam DET 2 D CO 1 224th Aviation, National Guard. Responsibilities This position is located in the operations section of an Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF), Army Aviation Flight Activity (AAFA) or Aviation Classification repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD). The Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) Technician provides inspection, maintenance, adjustment, modification and repair of Aviation Life Support Equipments (ALSE) equipment. The ALSE technician provides the required maintenance and supply functions for all ALSE equipment. Provides initial and continuation training and instruction on the use and care of ALSE equipment. 1. Inspects and maintains ALSE for aviators and crew members. ALSE includes helmets with communication gear and weapon sighting device, survival vests comprised of various components, survival radios, cold/hot/overwater survival kits, life rafts/life preservers, oxygen masks, first aid kits, night vision goggles, torso harness assemblies, flight clothing, antiexposure assemblies, and body armor. Performs functional tests of ALSE for obvious defects. Inspects flyers helmets and communication systems for frayed wires and visible discrepancies. Disassembles helmets, paints and rebuilds as necessary. Performs operational checks and communication checks on reassembled helmets. Performs order and time compliance modifications to Night Vision Goggles (NVG). Conducts 90 day operational and low light resolution checks by utilizing required tests and charts. Ensures all goggles and equipment are modified for aviation by cutting, sizing, fitting and modified as required. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as necessary. Completes functional checks on communications equipment, overwater equipment and night vision goggles using test sets, multimeters and common hand tools. Determines if equipment is serviceable, repairable, requires calibration or salvage. Replaces minor parts on components and sends equipment to AVCRAD mechanics for higher level maintenance. Maintains a comprehensive ALSE maintenance publications library. 2. Manages a Central Issue Facility (CIF) for ALSE and flight clothing. Conducts initial issue, fitting and adjustments for comfort and safety. Accomplishes all related supply functions to include accountability of equipment issue to flight crew members, additional stockage levels/reorder points and individual records files. Conducts turn-ins and direct exchanges. Determines if clothing is serviceable, unserviceable or repairable. Establishes protections against theft and pilferage. Regularly operates a sewing machine to repair flight clothing, vests and other canvas or nomex items. 3. Conducts an effective ALSE training program for crew members, non-crew-members and civilian technicians. Prepares and presents instructions on the purpose, operation, use and care of ALSE equipment. Obtains and maintains current appropriate ALSE instructional material (e.g. technical tapes, manuals, training aids). Conducts instruction on ALSE subjects to include personal survival, emergency simulated egress, ditching, and forced landing demonstrations and drills. Presents preflight briefings on ALSE equipment required for special missions and for non-rated personnel prior to their participation in flying activities. 4. Serves as a back-up position for the Flight Operations Specialist. Provides administrative support and assistance for flight operations and flight service functions. 5. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Military Grades: Enlisted - E4 to E5 Compatible Military Assignments: 68A (Biomedical Equipment Specialist), 68W (Combat Medic Specialist), 15B (Aircraft Powerplant Repairer), 15T (UH-72 Helicopter Repairer), 15P (Aviation Operation Specialist). GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's knowledge of materials and equipment used in the line of work (helmets, torso harness assemblies, parachutes, survival equipment). Ability to understand written instructions and to use reference materials and manuals. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which has demonstrated knowledge of aviation life support equipment. Experience reading and interpreting military manuals. Experience in supply procedures and property accountability.
