Summary This National Guard position is for an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, Position Description Number NGD1366000 and is part of 114 MAI SQ. This is a Permanent, Title 32, Dual-Status position. AREAS OF CONSIDERATION: - Members of the South Dakota Air National Guard and those eligible to become a member. Responsibilities As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-5/8/10, you will: This position is located within a National Guard aircraft maintenance organization. Its primary purpose is to inspect, repair, modify, and service aircraft systems, components, and assemblies, both on- and off-aircraft. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected individual must be assigned to a compatible military position in the following AFSC upon date of hire: AFSC 2A3X3, 2A5X1, 2A5X2, 2A5X4, 2A3X7. Aptitude scores can be checked on the vMPF or at the Customer Service in the Force Support Squadron and physical profile in the medical squadron. Military grade inversion within the full-time work force is not permitted. The military grade of the full time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of personnel supervised. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-05 - Must have at least 6 months experience in the KSAs listed below. Use of common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision. Experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade. WG-08 - Must have at least 12 months experience in the KSAs listed below. Use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. WG-10 - Must have at least 18 months experience in the KSAs listed below. Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a separate sheet(s) addressing the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) and how they relate to work experience, education or training Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot aircraft systems, diagnose malfunctions, and determine their remedies. Skill to initiate necessary documentation of aircraft maintenance actions using 781 series forms and IMDS computer based data system. Knowledge and ability to train 2A3X3 personnel on aircraft maintenance procedures. Skill in organizing time daily, weekly, and monthly to meet job requirements, schedules, and work center additional duties. . ** Statement of Difference ** This statement of difference serves to temporarily downgrade the PD to the WG-05 helper level for an Aircraft Mechanic. A locally developed Individual Development Plan (IDP) will be established for the incumbent. This plan will be designed to provide the individual selected with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and hone their skills relating to machinist work on the F16 and related systems. This statement of difference serves to describe the differences between the WG-08 and the WG-10 position descriptions.
