AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (Title 32)
Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (Title 32), Position Description Number D1525000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard. Responsibilities As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (Title 32), WG-8852-12, you will act as the crew chief with responsibility for directing the total maintenance effort on individually assigned aircraft. The work involves the total maintenance of complex, high performance military aircraft, ranging from multi-purpose heavy, multi-engine transports to the most modern sophisticated fighters and bombers. Fully responsible for providing detailed technical insight on individual aircraft's level of Mission Capability (MC), then develops and recommends a comprehensive course of action to maintain the aircraft at Full Mission Capability (FMC). All aircraft are fully integrated in and are part of the Total Force Mission of the United States Air Force. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Coordinates and oversees the work of subordinate aircraft mechanics. Assigns maintenance and repair functions to subordinate mechanics. Observes and inspects performance and work procedures to ensure compliance with applicable technical publications, directives and local policy. Plans, develops and conducts training to a multi facet workforce comprised of assigned military positions. Makes diagnoses and solves malfunctions of aircraft systems and components by utilizing diagnostic and precision equipment. Performs or oversees maintenance such as troubleshooting, removing, repairing, replacing, rigging, aligning, cleaning, painting and corrosion control. Performs in-process and final inspection of aircraft and components undergoing repair, overhaul and/or modification. Accomplishes operational tests of aircraft systems and components. Makes diagnoses and solves malfunctions by studying layout drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams. Ensures aircraft documentation and Maintenance Information Systems accurately reflect the airworthiness of the aircraft. Provides technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies and system malfunctions. Selects the appropriate instructional method, utilizing either formalized classroom or practical on-the-job method of instruction. Performs preflight, postflight, thru flight, periodic, isochronal, phase, hourly and special inspections. Performs or assists in aircrew debriefing when required. Installs, removes, inspects and adjusts aerial delivery systems to mission requirements. Ensures all mission associated support equipment is available and serviceable for deployment and employment. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.: Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank requirement of TSgt & May not exceed the rank of MSgt. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-12 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience or training equivalent to or exceeding the WG-10 grade level, such as serving as a dedicated crew chief responsible for the overall maintenance, servicing, inspections, and documentation of one or more aircraft. Experience must include coordinating and overseeing the work of subordinate mechanics and journey-level workers across multiple trades, performing in-process and final inspections, and ensuring adherence to technical publications and local directives. Experience serving as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve airframe, mechanical, electrical, avionics, and pneudraulic system repairs. Experience must also include performing operational tests, troubleshooting complex malfunctions, directing maintenance during mission generation or regeneration operations, and planning and conducting training for assigned personnel to meet mission requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
