AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER

The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards. Responsibilities - Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers. - Performs work. - Performs troubleshooting on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components. - Performs flighline and ground handling operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WL-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s). 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led. Knowledge of Red X inspection procedures for assigned aircraft and the ability to evaluate work that places aircraft in Red X status. 4. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led. 5. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees. 6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Heavy lifting over 40 pounds. Moderate carrying from 15-44 pounds. Hours of straight pulling are at least 1 hour per day. Hours of pulling hand over hand are at least 1 hour per day. One hour of pushing per day. Reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands are required, five hours of walking per day, fice hours of standing per day, three hours of crawling per day, three hours of kneeling per day, three hours of repearted bending per day, three hours of climbing per day, use of arms and legs. Both legs required. Operation of a motor vehicle is required. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable to 13 inches to 26 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4 specific vision requirement. Cannot be colorblind to colors used for runway operations; red, green, and white. Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Hearing aid permitted. Annual hearing test. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed outdoors, in and on parked aircraft, hangar areas, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes of heat, cold, and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and awkward positions. Exposed to dirt, grease, aircraft fluids, oil, hydraulic fluid, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases such as Hydrazine and Halon. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blasts. Works closely with others and alone. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
