AI/ML Engineers code and develop software that deploys ML models and algorithms into production. Communicate and present complex analytics results and concepts to leadership and internal stakeholders. Employ AI and/or ML that may include natural language processing (NLP), natural language understanding (NLU), semantic understanding, intent classification, computer vision, deep learning, and automatic speech recognition (ASR).Applies deep learning technologies to give computers the capability to visualize, learn and respond to complex situations. May adapt machine learning to areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics and other products that allow users to have an interactive experience. Work with large scale computing frameworks, data analysis systems. Employees in this role are expected to apply knowledge of experimental methodologies, statistics, optimization, probability theory and machine learning using code for tool building, statistical analysis, using both general purpose software and statistical languages.
**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Lead applied research in LLMs, generative AI, and multimodal models.
+ Evaluate and experiment with state-of-the-art architectures (e.g., Transformers, Diffusion Models, Retrieval-Augmented Generation).
+ Publish internal whitepapers and contribute to external conferences where applicable.
Engineering & Implementation
+ Design and implement scalable AIML pipelines using frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, and MLflow.
+ Collaborate with engineering teams to deploy models into production using MLOps best practices (CI/CD, model versioning, monitoring).
Tooling & Infrastructure
+ Evaluate and integrate advanced AIML tools such as GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Vertex AI, Azure OpenAI, and Hugging Face Transformers.
+ Work with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) to ensure scalable and secure model deployment.
Architecture & Strategy
+ Architect end-to-end AIML systems including data ingestion, model training, inference, and feedback loops.
+ Partner with enterprise architects and product leaders to align AIML capabilities with business goals 3.
Mentorship & Collaboration
+ Mentor junior engineers and researchers.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, software engineers, and business stakeholders
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field.
+ 6+years of experience in Data science and Machine Learning
+ 2+ years of working in Gen AI and LLM’s
+ 6+ years of Proficiency in Python, including libraries like pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn, is essential.
+ 3+Years of experience in SQL
+ Ability to build, train, and optimize machine learning models for production is required.
+ Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow/PyTorch) is a strong asset.
+ Knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs) for text and conversational applications is expected
+ Exposure to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) methodologies and AI Agents is highly desirable.
+ Familiarity with data cleaning, feature engineering, and model evaluation best practices is crucial.
+ Excellent analytical thinking and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration are required.
+ Prior experience using cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) for scalable deployments is preferred.
_At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone. We believe everyone–of every race, gender, sexuality, age, location and income–deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life. Today, however, there are still far too many barriers to good health which are disproportionately experienced by people of color, historically marginalized groups and those with lower incomes. We are committed to mitigating our impact on the environment and enabling and delivering equitable care that addresses health disparities and improves health outcomes - an enterprise priority reflected in our mission._
