You Are:
UST is searching for an AI/ML Engineer – LLM Integration & Optimization who will train and fine-tune models, optimizing performance through MLOps-based best practices.
The opportunity:
· Development and Integration: Responsible for incorporating large language models (LLM) into various applications. This includes developing code that interacts with language models through APIs, developing user interfaces, and deploying these applications into cloud-based production environments.
· AI Application Tuning & Optimization: develop, optimize and maintain LLM applications through AIOps-based best practices.
· Continually enhance solutions by evaluating available language models and relevant AI technologies.
· Maintain CI/CD-based versioning, logging and documentation for reference and to facilitate future development.
· Team Collaboration: Influence, build trust, empower team members, and build positive relationships across the team and foundation to help drive the AI and LLM projects and practices forward.
· Work closely with operations & program teams to identify areas to integrate AI and LLM technologies into business applications and processes.
· Build and maintain strong partnerships within IT, across program and operations teams, and key stakeholders through collaboration as a trusted advisor and Generative AI consultant to maximize business outcomes and project delivery.
· Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in AI and LLM’s.
This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.
What you need:
· Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Data Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Statistics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
· At least 5+ years’ experience in AI, machine learning or software engineering, including building products or solutions.
· Strong programming skills in Python
· Experience with ML frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras
· Experience with workflow/agentic orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, Workflows, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, etc
· 3+ years of professional experience with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure)
· Experience integrating, tuning and evaluating large language models within custom applications.
· Knowledge of NLP concepts, such as transformers, tokenization, and embeddings.
· Knowledge of ethics in AI and responsible AI development
· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with ability to present and influence at all management levels.
· Experience with agile development methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.
Role Location: Washington
Compensation Range: $82,000-$123,000
Benefits
Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. They are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as the following Company-paid Employee Only benefits: basic life insurance, accidental death and disability insurance, and short- and long-term disability benefits. Regular employees may purchase additional voluntary short-term disability benefits, and participate in a Health Savings Account (HSA) as well as a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for healthcare, dependent child care, and/or commuting expenses as allowable under IRS guidelines. Benefits offerings vary in Puerto Rico.

Full-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year) and are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) program with employer matching. Part-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year).
All US employees who work in a state or locality with more generous paid sick leave benefits than specified here will receive the benefit of those sick leave laws.
