The Position
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Nevada Department of Agriculture, Division of Plant Health and Compliance is seeking to fill an Agriculturalist 2 in the Las Vegas office. The position is responsible for inspecting pest control applicators in the field in accordance with inspection schedules and protocols, addressing non-compliance issues with companies and applicators, and investigating verified public complaints regarding potential pesticide violations. Duties also include inspecting restricted use pesticide dealers and fumigation sites for compliance, referring potential violations for enforcement, and assisting with the management of Nevada's pest control licensing program. This role involves working closely with private industry to resolve compliance issues and providing licensing data to support software development and licensing process improvements. The incumbent works with private industry to correct non-compliance issues and provide pest control licensing data and information related to pest control licensing processes and records for use in ongoing software development. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and one year of professional experience in agricultural inspection, seed certification, research, or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR one year of experience as an Agriculturist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
Restricted use Pesticide Applicator's Certificate is required as an ongoing condition of employment for some positions in the series.
Special Requirements
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
