Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Agroforestry Development

Design and promote agroforestry models that integrate trees, crops, and livestock to improve soil fertility, enhance biodiversity, and increase carbon sequestration.Provide technical guidance on the selection of suitable agroforestry tree species and crop combinations for different agroecological zones.Support training of farmers, extension workers, and community groups on agroforestry establishment, management, and soil conservation techniques.

Sustainable Agriculture & Soil Fertility Improvement

Introduce and support adoption of climate-smart and conservation agriculture practices (e.g., minimum tillage, cover cropping, crop rotation, organic amendments, composting).Develop and disseminate farmer-friendly guidelines on soil fertility management and carbon-smart agriculture.Promote integration of nitrogen-fixing species and biofertilizers to restore soil productivity and reduce reliance on chemical inputs.

Livelihoods & Community Development

Identify and support agriculture-based income-generating activities (e.g., agroforestry products, beekeeping, horticulture, value addition, and market linkages).Work with communities to strengthen farmer organizations e.g. the Commodity Producer Groups (CPGs) and cooperatives for collective marketing and value chain integration.

Capacity Building & Partnerships

Build capacity of local extension staff and lead farmers, to deliver agroforestry and sustainable agriculture interventions.Forge partnerships with research institutions, government agencies, and private sector actors to scale up agroforestry and livelihood initiatives.Represent the project in technical working groups and policy forums on agriculture, livelihoods, and carbon initiatives.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

Contribute to development of indicators and data collection tools for tracking adoption of agroforestry practices, soil fertility improvement, and livelihood outcomes.Document and share lessons learned, best practices, and success stories to inform project scaling and replication.Provide timely technical reports, input to donor reports, and presentations on agriculture and livelihood interventions.


Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of a BSc in Agriculture, Agroforestry, Agronomy, Rural Development, Natural Resource Management, or related field.Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in agroforestry, sustainable agriculture, and livelihood development, preferably in the context of climate change or forest carbon projects.Strong technical expertise in soil fertility management, agroforestry systems, and climate-smart agriculture practices.Demonstrated experience in community-based livelihood improvement, value chain development, and market linkages.Experience working with rural communities, including women and youth, in participatory approaches.Familiarity with carbon projects, Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) of land-use interventions, and related standards (e.g., VCS, Gold Standard) is an asset.Strong facilitation, training, and capacity-building skills.Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
