Key Objectives:
Reporting to the VP Underwriting, A&H, the Underwriting Program Manager will be responsible for providing financial quotes for Life, Accident & Health and Travel lines of business within Affinity. This would include Credit Protection, Direct Response, Specialty Lines for affinity groups, including financial institutions, associations and distributors. This position requires an understanding of underwriting principles, strong analytical skills, the ability to manage a team of underwriters and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Major Responsibilities:
Evaluation of risk and financial returns across varied lines of business within the Affinity business to ensure the underwriting decisions align with Affinity’s risk tolerance and ROE/margin targets while also growing the business. Oversee the development and underwriting of Direct Marketing, Affinity, Credit Card and Digital programs. Products include Travel Insurance (multiple products), Extended Warranty, Purchase Protection, Cell Phone Protection, Critical Illness, AD&D, Life. Driving the successful underwriting discipline inclusive of developing and negotiating price coverage, terms and conditions for all new business and renewals while complying with underwriting authority, guidelines, and directives. Accountable for overall profitability measure targets. Identify trends and recommend and implement case management actions. Collaborate with sales leadership to ensure robust sales pipeline and production management with underwriting teams to ensure best practices and efficiencies utilized. Oversee operational oversight of monthly production reporting, leveraging data for insights and trend management. Collaborate with home office underwriting, actuarial, product development, claims and legal teams to effectively execute strategy. Achievement of top and bottom-line financial plan – including new business growth and renewal retention, expense management. Participate as needed in the client proposal delivery, including traveling to large finalist presentations. Building strong relationships with key external producers and internal stakeholders. Completion of University degree and/or equivalent insurance-related education and experience. 7-10 years of experience in the industry with a focus on Affinity Markets and Accident & Health insurance products. Strong quantitative skills and a background in analyzing and modeling large amounts of data and performance metrics Excellent communication, sales, influence, negotiation, and presentation skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deliver results within defined timelines. Proven track record of successfully leading teams and driving business growth. Demonstrated inclusive and visionary leadership. Accomplished in delivering an effective employee engagement experience, including a keen focus on career development.
