AFAD Program Manager
Job Description Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Program Manager to lead the development and deployment of the Autonomous Flagger Assistance Device (AFAD) program. This individual will drive the end-to-end execution of a high-impact safety innovation that integrates advanced perception systems, electrified drivetrains, autonomous navigation, and telematics control. The Program Manager will oversee proof-of-concept development, system integration, field trials, and industrialization partnerships, ensuring successful delivery from design to scale-up. This role requires a strong background in systems engineering, hardware/software integration, and product launch management, with a proven ability to lead cross-functional, multi-stakeholder programs in technology-driven industries. Key Responsibilities Program Leadership & Execution • Own the delivery of the AFAD program across all phases: problem definition, PoC, system integration, validation, trials, and industrialization. • Establish and manage program scope, schedule, budget, and key performance metrics (latency, maneuverability, perception accuracy, reliability). • Ensure alignment with business sponsors, technical leaders, safety experts, and external engineering partners. Systems Engineering & Product Development • Translate functional objectives into detailed technical requirements across sensing, perception, control, drivetrain, telematics, and human-machine interface subsystems. • Oversee hardware/software co-design and integration, including LiDAR, radar, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, compute platforms, telematics units, and electric powertrain systems. • Manage risk assessments, validation plans, and regulatory compliance (safety, crashworthiness, federal/state traffic regulations). Stakeholder & Partner Management • Act as the primary interface between CRH, Tata Elxsi engineering teams, and potential industrialization/manufacturing partners. • Facilitate engagement with construction crews, safety steering committees, and regulatory agencies. • Prepare program updates, business cases, and recommendations for the Steering Committee and senior executives. Field Testing & Industrialization • Lead preparation and execution of field trials at live job sites, capturing lessons learned to refine requirements. • Ensure readiness for scale-up, including manufacturability, cost optimization, maintainability, and reliability. • Support IP management and commercialization strategies with legal and business development teams. Skills and Requirements Qualifications Required • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. • 10+ years of experience in program management or product development roles, preferably in autonomous systems, automotive, robotics, or industrial equipment. • Proven track record of launching complex HW/SW integrated products from concept to market. • Strong expertise in systems engineering methodologies, including requirements definition, architecture design, integration, and verification. • Hands-on knowledge of autonomous perception technologies (LiDAR, radar, cameras, sensor fusion), embedded systems, and electrified drivetrains. • Experience managing external engineering partners and contract manufacturers.
