Advanced Practice Registered Nurse- Cardiovascular Services -UTower The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is responsible for the direct and indirect care of his/her assigned patients, and the supervision of assigned personnel. He/she will also report to the medical director and nursing director. The position requires the ability to assess patient's condition, formulate a plan of care, and evaluate a patient's response to care and treatment. Responsible for the continuous development and ongoing clinical management of the patients in UHealth system. This will be accomplished while carrying out the Mission, Goals and Objectives of University of Miami Hospital, while focusing on the patients, physicians and the employees as customers. Job Duties: Completes history, perform physical examination, review medical records and laboratory reports, interprets diagnostic tests, formulate risk assessment and plan for surgery in conjunction with supervising physician/anesthesiologist, and document in electronic medical record (Epic/UChart and/or Meditech). Acts as a liaison between Nursing and the Medical Service to ensure proper follow-through on all preoperative patients. Recognizes signs of abuse and/or neglect in adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Reports findings to M.D. Collaborates with the supervising physician and/or medical screening MD in making recommendations for medical consults. Collaborates with the supervising physician to ensure each patient scheduled for surgery has been properly screened. Recommends pre-operative medication for the day of surgery and orders appropriate diagnostic testing and consultations as necessary. Discharge patients with appropriate pre-operative instructions for surgery, including medication management. Communicates findings that may impact surgery proceeding as scheduled with surgeon, anesthesia, patient and family. Follow up phone calls to patient/family, surgeon and any other team member if abnormalities are identified. Reports incidents in event reporting system (Quattro’s). Participates in QA activities according to Joint Commission Standards as requested. Participates in all activities that further professional growth and development Attends mandatory in-services and CBLs. Integrates operations with other departments to ensure efficiency and coordination. Participates in the quality control program while providing continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and/or service. Promotes and supports the hospital to all potential customers through an active role in the hospital as well as in the community. Participates in the education of patients, families and staff. Conducts patient rounds independently and with physicians on the inpatient unit Performs an admission history and physical physician exam on adult patients admitted to the inpatient Unit at the request of the Admitting Physician Orders, reviews, and interprets all records, lab data, x-rays, and diagnostic procedures relevant to the patient. Presents the newly admitted patient formally to the physician on the day of admission and daily thereafter. Initiates a diagnostic and treatment plan based on discussion with the Physician. Writes physician admission orders on each patient, daily orders, and progress notes at physician’s request. Reassesses inpatients throughout the day and daily and writes orders as appropriate. Discusses patient’s progress, medical conditions and plan of care with the patient,patient’s family, or significant other. Education: Master of Science in Nursing Certification and Licensing: Current Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licens BLS from the American Heart Association ACLS from the American Heart Association Work Experience: Minimum of three years of clinical experience as a nurse.
