Summary:
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in this position will focus on the care and management of patients within the colposcopy clinic as well as general gynecology and gynecologic oncology settings. The ideal candidate will have clinical experience in general gynecology, colposcopy procedures, and/or oncology and demonstrate the ability to work independently in a fast-paced outpatient clinic environment. This is a procedural-focused role and the APP will be responsible for managing all patients in the colposcopy program.

This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple areas and includes extensive procedural training, including dedicated training in colposcopy.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
Clinical experience in general gynecology, colposcopy, and/or gynecologic oncologyStrong procedural skills; comfortable with performing pelvic exams, pap smears, biopsies, and IUD insertions/removalsAble to work independently with minimal supervisionFamiliar with outpatient clinical workflows and comfortable managing patient panelsDemonstrated ability to manage acute and chronic gynecologic conditionsWillingness to travel to various MD Anderson Houston-area clinics when needed
Key Responsibilities:

Outpatient Clinical Care
Provide direct clinical care in the following outpatient settings based on need: general gynecology, gynecologic oncology, ovarian screening, colposcopy (primary assignment), and oncofertilityManage all aspects of the colposcopy clinic including patient triage, procedures, follow-up care, documentation, and patient educationPerform routine and advanced gynecologic procedures (e.g., cervical/vaginal/vulvar/endometrial biopsies, IUD placements/removals, pelvic exams, wound care)Monitor and interpret diagnostic test results and communicate findings to physicians and patientsWrite and manage clinical documentation including history and physical exams, progress notes, procedure notes, and patient letters
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, and allied health staff to ensure comprehensive treatment planningParticipate in interdisciplinary team meetings and conferencesFacilitate referrals and follow-up appointments as needed
Education & Support
Educate patients and families on treatment plans, side effect management, and follow-up careServe as a clinical resource and participate in education of nursing staff, residents, and fellowsDevelop patient education materials and contribute to institutional initiatives
Research & Quality Initiatives
Participate in ongoing departmental research and apply evidence-based practiceSupport clinical trials and implementation of new protocols when applicableContribute to quality improvement efforts and departmental goals

Note: This position is based primarily in an outpatient clinic setting and does not include regular inpatient responsibilities. However, collaboration with inpatient teams may occur as needed.

Outpatient APP

Education
REQUIRED: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

Licensure/Certification
REQUIRED: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.

PREFERRED: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.

This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
