Department Overview - Colon & Rectal Surgical Oncology:
The Colon & Rectal Surgical Oncology department at MD Anderson is a high-volume, fast-paced clinical setting with a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration. Experience Level:
New graduates will be considered; however, prior APP experience is preferred in a critical care environment or surgical experience.RNFA for APRNs is a plus but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for new, consult, and follow-up patientsCollaborate with supervising physicians and fellows to develop and implement care plansOrder and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and lab workDocument clinical encounters clearly via dictation or manual entryPerform minor outpatient procedures (e.g., wound care, drain removal, suture removal)Manage pre- and post-operative care for surgical patientsProvide thorough patient and family educationCoordinate care with multidisciplinary teams across the institutionParticipate in education, research, and administrative initiatives as neededOther duties as assigned

Education
REQUIRED: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
Licensure/Certification
REQUIRED: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
PREFERRED: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
