Job Summary

To assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with liver disease including those with liver failure and those who have undergone liver transplantation.

The successful applicant will perform most of the responsibilities in the ambulatory environment, with some limited daytime responsibilities in the inpatient setting. Evaluate, monitor and treat patients with acute and chronic liver disease in ambulatory clinics. Identify, assess and treat the needs of patients with liver failure who are undergoing evaluation for liver transplantation. Duties will include seeing clinic patients, preparing clinic notes, communicating with referring and consulting physicians, reviewing laboratory reports, pathology reports, and radiological imaging studies, contacting patients regarding test results and management plan, and communicating patients' conditions and management plan with attending physicians and their nurses. Applicants will be trained to perform paracentesis under ultrasound guidance and will be expected to perform diagnostic and therapeutic paracentesis as needed after completion of training. Attend weekly liver transplant patient selection conference and presentation of patients. Attend weekly liver conference and presentation of patients at clinical case conference/pathology conference.

Required Qualifications*

NP

Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP or Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP or Family NPGraduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).Current DEA registration AHA approved BLS 

PA

Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.  Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant  (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). State of Michigan Controlled Substance License requiredCurrent DEA registration AHA approved BLS

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
