Job Summary:

The Advanced Practice Provider is an independent health care provider who coordinates care through collaboration with the attending Physician The PA or APN provides care in accordance with the objectives policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee

The main function of this role is to provide consistent high quality perioperative and postoperative care for all surgery patients The APP will be expected to function as an active member of the surgery patient care team Responsibilities include surgical first assisting perioperative and postoperative management hospital rounds on inpatients and emergency room consultations The APP will be expected to work to the full extent of their licensure with an emphasis on supervised autonomy

Essential Functions

Perform history and physical examinations in preparation for surgical proceduresOrder appropriate laboratory radiologic and special diagnostic tests and interpret and report to surgical teamThe APP may be asked to see emergent consults in the ED and when appropriate treat conditions within the scope of the APPs practice and experience Communication of complicated surgical emergencies and appropriate preparation for surgery will also be expectedAssist with inpatient daily rounds as assigned This can include wound dressing changes daily physical exams and addressing any concerns of the patients on the serviceThoroughly explains procedures to patients prior to testingPerform appropriate interpretation of laboratory and diagnostic testingResponsible for discharging patients in collaboration with the attendingDemonstrates strong organizational skills communicates effectively and demonstrates time managementThere will be cross coverage of the critical care unit as neededPerforms duties independently and coordinates care with the bedside nurse attending physician and other consulting providersCompassionately interacts with patients across different areas of care

Job Requirements

APN or NPAcute care certification preferred2 years acute care hospital experience preferredCurrent APN or PA certificationCurrent NJ state license CDS and DEACurrent BLS/ACLS required
