Our group is responsible for the aerodynamic design and characterization for all military aircraft programs along their product life cycle. We use numerical simulations, wind tunnel
testing and flight test to understand the aerodynamic behavior and to create and deliver aerodynamic data and models for stability & control, performance, loads and aeroelastics. In
addition, we give support to production in terms of assessing the aerodynamic impact of non-conformities, repairs plus in-service incidents.

We are seeking a highly skilled Aerodynamic Methods & Tools Developer with a strong background in numerical mathematics and computer science to join our team at Airbus. In
this role, you will further develop our expertise in numerical simulation, algorithms and mathematical modeling to drive innovations in aerodynamic design and analysis.

Your tasks and responsibilities

Development and application of software for the simulation and analysis of compressible turbulent flows around high and low aspect ratio aircraft

Emphasis is placed on the development of innovations for industrial applications within reasonable timeframes, not fundamental research

Occasional analysis of aerodynamic shapes by numerical and theoretical methods & tools for the development of highly agile aircraft

Interface with all disciplines relevant for physics of flight such as structures, loads, flight dynamics, mass, etc.

Continuous improvement of aerodynamic software tool chains

Development and support of software for the mathematical modelling of the aerodynamic aircraft characteristics (aero dataset)

Link with the external research community in the field of aerodynamic methods tools, in consistence with the company strategy

Desired skills and qualifications

Higher education in numerical mathematics, computer science, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent

Three or more years of professional experience in numerical simulation

Applied skills in Python, C, C++

Strong desire to work, learn and grow as part of a high-performing team

Experience and interest in the following fields is of advantage:

Linear and nonlinear iterative solvers

Computer Science for algorithms, data structures and complexity theory

Discretization methods for partial differential equations including turbulence modelling

Mesh generation

Proficiency in code development in industrial software environments designed for usage on massively parallel clusters

The following way of working and social skills is appreciated:

Autonomous, independent, target-oriented and flexible way of working

Ability to continuously improve own engineering skills and expertise

Ability to integrate into a dynamic team of aerodynamic specialists

Ability to prioritize technical solutions in order to balance with economic constraints

Minimum language skills: negotiation level in English; good German skills are advantageous
