Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for integrating Medical Center needs with the clinical, academic, financial and research needs of the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery to ensure the highest standards of patient care, academic excellence, and sound fiscal management. Reports to Vice President, Clinical Operations, Chairman of the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery and Johns Hopkins Hospital Chief Administrative Officer for Neurology/Neurosurgery/Neurosciences.

Role Accountabilities Include:

Serves as the communication link between the physician groups and Medical Center Administration. Seeks to integrate all functions in the attainment of the Departments’ and Medical Center’s goals. Ensures effective, accurate, and timely communication and problem-solving with other departments and with the Departmental administrative leadership at Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH). Responsible for various special administrative projects as defined by senior management both at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (JHBMC) and Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) Neurosciences (centered at JHH). Develops close collaborative relationships with medical staff in Neurosciences (Neurology physicians and Neurosurgeons) to assure a team approach to departmental issues. Functions as Administrator-On-Call as designated by the President of the hospital acting on behalf of the President as chief executive officer of the Medical Center on evenings, nights, weekend and holidays. In this regard, he/she shall have the authority to act and speak for the President in those areas of responsibility normally exercised by him/her. Lead department strategies and operations in close partnership the Chairs of Neurology and Neurosurgery, and the nursing director for the Neurosciences inpatient units.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in healthcare related field required Work requires the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to plan for, design or enhance highly-complex academic medical center-wide systems and programs, resolve problems requiring a comprehensive and state-of-the-art awareness of the technology and literature in a professional, technical or scientific field, and/or develop financial and operating plans for a large department/division. Work requires the communication skills necessary to effectively manage the employees within assigned department and to persuade and negotiate with peer-level department heads, executive leadership within and outside the Departments and/or with external agencies/facilities on issues and programs that impact the department as well as several other large departments.
