ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR, PERIOPERATIVE SERVICES | Greenville, SC

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Assumes responsibility and accountability for operations and success of Surgical and Peri-operative Services in the facilities noted above. Responsible for the overall direction and management of the Pre-Admission Testing, Pre-op, Operating Room, PACU,  Central Sterile Processing, and Surgical Scheduling.  Areas of responsibility have significant strategic and financial impact on current and future success of St Francis Greenville system. Responsibility for the coordination and delivery of high quality service that meets or exceeds customer expectations.  Responsible for managing personnel, preparing and monitoring operating and capital budgets, quality assurance, staffing levels, developing goals and objectives, as well as developing and implementing department wide policies and procedures. Works through subordinate supervisors to accomplish duties and responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions

Planning:

Establishes annual operational and capital budgets in collaboration with physicians, the Vice President, and departmental leadership. 

Accountable for marketing, benchmarking, short and long-range planning for Surgical Services to achieve financial and operation objectives. 

Takes a leadership role and actively participates in continuous improvement, cost containment, and reengineering of organizational issues and processes.

Participates in and/or negotiates contract terms and business relationships with vendors and managed care providers.

Develops goals, objectives, and strategic plans that are consistent with Bon Secours Health Systems mission and strategic plans.

Develops plans for future services or expansion and changes in existing services that are consistent with organizational direction.

Markets and develops strategies to improve volumes and increase business.

Prepares project scope, financial forecast, volume projections and capital expenses for any new project. Serves as an administrative resource person for specific projects and demographic data necessary to prepare CONs, special projects, etc. Develops programs related to Centers for Excellence and other service lines. Attends interdisciplinary committees and task force meetings to represent Surgical Services and collaborates to accomplish system goals. 

Leadership:

Serves as a role model for cooperation between and within the Surgical/Peri-op Services Departments. 

Acts as a major link in the communication process working as part of a team within and outside the operating center to accomplish goals of St Francis health system.

Demonstrates visibility and accessibility to staff by making regular rounds, staff communication, and meetings.

Establishes and maintains visible professional relationship with medical staff to ensure continuous quality improvements in clinical and operational affairs.

Serves as a liaison with Medical Staff in addressing issues and working collaboratively on planning and problem resolution. 

Provides direct support to assigned Medical Staff Committees including all Surgical Service Line Department Meetings and the Surgical Executive Committee.

Promotes cooperation with all departments, other health professionals, support services, and physicians’ offices through effective lines of communication.

Collaborates with nursing and medical staff in the development and measurement of performance of standards of patient care.

Develops and encourages Registered Nurses to make effective decisions and delegates authority to lowest appropriate level through shared governance.

Employment Qualifications

Experience:      

Graduation from an accredited college or university with Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Associate’s Degree in Nursing with Bachelor’s degree in Business or Health Related field.  Master’s degree in Business Management, Healthcare Administration or equivalent is required.

Minimum of 5 years of professional level knowledge in management and business planning required in a Surgical/Peri-operative Services setting – including but not limited to Finance, Personnel Management, Capital and Operational Budgeting, Cost Reduction, Developing Goals and Objectives, Quality Improvement Initiatives, and demonstrated Managerial and Leadership Ability.

Experience in supervising a large number of technical, clinical, and clerical employees.

Demonstrate ability to effect good medical-staff relations, working with highly qualified specialty physicians.

Registered Nurse licensed to practice in South Carolina.
