Job Summary The School of Social Science and Global Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach upper- and Masters-level anthropology courses either online or face-to-face. The primary responsibility of this position will be teaching a one-semester online course, “ Heritage Resources and Public Policy” Primary Duties and Responsibilities + Teach Anthropology classes as needed. + Attend program meetings as determined by the program coordinator. + Follow all university, college, and school policies regarding teaching practices and job performance. + Be responsive to communication from students, staff, and administration. + Hold regular office hours. + Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications 18 graduate hours of Anthropology. Graduate degree in related field. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of the teaching field; skill in delivering required knowledge and ability to engender learning in students. + knowledge of the legislative basis of archaeological and historical policy, including NAGPRA + Collections development and curation skills. + Use of Canvas and ability to teach online both synchronous and asynchronous. + Professionalism in all activities, participating in a collegial, ethical and responsible manner. + Ability to respond to inquiries from students, staff and administration in a timely manner as stipulated. Preferred Qualifications Graduate degree in Anthropology with an emphasis in archaeology and experience with online teaching. Experience with Canvas. Previous employment in Cultural Resource Management administration. Registered professional archaeologist (RPA).
