Additive Materials Engineering Technician

Emerson in Marshalltown, IA is seeking an Engineering Technician to support material development and additive manufacturing research. In this role, you’ll contribute to advancing laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) technology, assist with lab operations, and help establish standards that drive efficiency and innovation within our Additive R&D team!

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Support material science engineering with sectioning, mounting, polishing, and etching of material samples. Support of material science with microscope imaging of material samples, while having the ability to communicate results with the Materials Engineer. Support of material science by working with third parties on material characterization, including but not limited to tensile, density, and chemical composition testing. Track and maintain metal powder inventory to ensure that adequate quantities of raw powders are stocked and ensure machines are adequately filled for development activities. Perform calibrations and maintenance of laser and optics systems on LPBF machines in the Emerson Additive Lab. Support of 3D metal printers as they relate to start-up, in-print monitoring, and unloading of jobs. Support post processing activities for produced components, including furnace, bandsaw, and media blast activities. Build and maintain safety, operations, and raw material handling documentation and standards for the Additive Manufacturing processes.  For This Role, You Will Need: HS Diploma Required, Technical AAS or higher preferred  Ability to lift up to 30 pounds Up to 10% domestic/international travel Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart: Experience with machine operation and/ or mechanical systems Previous experience with CNC machines or supporting an engineering lab as a technician is preferred but not required Experience with material handling, including hazardous materials, and material safety data sheets Documentation, organization, and process management skills Clear, effective communication, including the ability to give tours of the Additive Lab Technically proficient to collaborate with manufacturing, product engineering, product development engineers, purchasing, materials, supply / demand management, global supply chain, and other functions Able to identify and internalize standard methodologies both from within and outside the company Proficient with Microsoft Excel®, Word and PowerPoint® Ability to use a variety of database search mechanisms Safety first mentality, ensuring proper use of PPE and correct tools for each job
