The Associate Director, Head of Parasitology Lab ensures the provision of parasites and vectors containing parasites for the reliable performance of GxP studies (GSP, GCP) for the development of veterinary medicines by independent planning and coordination of the provision of infectious material. In addition, the infectious material will be used screening of antiparasitic. The collection and examination of sample material from varied sources for the maintenance of the concurrent parasite collection ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements in a timely manner. This role is responsible for ensuring proper documentation of strain repository and its propagation history. The incumbent will perform self-responsible planning and implementation of parasite strain reproduction, as study lead of strain propagation projects, in coordination with site management and management of animal husbandry.
The AD, Head of Parasitology Lab is responsible for procurement of laboratory equipment and planning of the laboratory operations. Commissioning and supervision of service providers, ensuring and coordination of all disposal tasks of the laboratory, responsible participation to ensure health, work and environmental protection at the site with focus on the parasitology laboratory. The position holder is an active member of Site leadership team. As senior member of the team, participate actively in the decision-making process of the site, support the leadership team in the initiatives and goals defined as objectives for the site.
The AD, Head of Parasitology Lab is responsible for overseeing scientists including technicians. This role manages laboratory activities.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
+ Manages the parasitology laboratory at the Fulton site as a research facility of the pharmaceutical industry with up to five (5) employees.
+ Ensures the achievement of the lab objectives; defines core competencies; specifies and plans the human resources (quantitative and qualitative); coordinates interfaces with other departments at the site (e.g. animal husbandry, GFE) and internal and external collaborators.
+ Contact person for questions regarding parasites, strain propagation, parasite diagnostics, experimental animals for parasite propagation, as well as EHS responsibilities at the parasitology laboratory.
+ Ensures the reliable and compliant conduct of studies of various types for the propagation of the parasites.
+ For studies of parasites strains propagation or for other studies when requested, acts as study lead with all accountabilities linked to this role.
+ Ensures the conduct of studies by appropriate collection and examination of samples of a wide variety of techniques (e.g. dissections, organ harvesting, animal testing), including ensuring proper documentation of study and laboratory relevant data.
+ Ensures the proper use of the laboratory equipment and laboratory facilities as well as commissioning and supervision of external service providers; responsible for creation and updating of laboratory equipment documentation.
+ Skillfully collaborates and cooperates within the global teams performing studies where parasites are needed which includes internal and external stakeholders to assure that studies can be performed for Research and Development in GCP and GSP studies. The parasites need to be available as per agreed timelines. Permission for transport needs to be obtained in a timely manner and the transport executed as per agreed timelines.
+ As Fulton site senior member, is a member of the site leadership team, accountable for contributing actively to site governance and overall site management, as well as site compliance, performance or collaboration projects, including internal and external audits and inspections.
**Requirements**
+ PhD (or equivalent) or MS with significant experience (> 5 years) in parasitology of animals. In lieu of PhD or MS, Bachelor degree with minimum of 8 years experience in related fields.
+ Safe theoretical and practical knowledge of the above requirements - expertise in the field of in parasitology and parasite propagation.
+ Independent, careful and structured working methods; high quality documentation skills.
+ Creativity, self-taught skills and constant willingness to further educate themselves and the lab personnel.
+ Accepts accountability and ownership.
