A reputable freight and logistics company in New Haven, Connecticut, is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Receivable Specialist to join their accounting team. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, prior accounts receivable experience, and the ability to effectively work in a fast-paced industry where accurate and timely processing is critical. Key Responsibilities:
+ Accounts Receivable Functions:
+ Process and post payments from clients, including checks, ACH, and credit card transactions.
+ Prepare and distribute invoices to customers in alignment with agreed-upon terms.
+ Monitor and reconcile customer accounts while ensuring accurate recordkeeping.
+ Investigate billing discrepancies and resolve issues promptly to maintain strong client relationships.
+ Collections & Follow-Up:
+ Track aged accounts receivable and proactively follow up on overdue payments.
+ Negotiate payment plans with clients when necessary and escalate unresolvable accounts to management.
+ Reporting & Analysis:
+ Prepare accounts receivable aging reports, outlining past-due accounts for review by management.
+ Provide supporting documentation for AR-related audits and reporting requirements.
+ Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes relating to AR accounts.
+ Process Compliance & Improvement:
+ Ensure all AR activities follow company policies and procedures.
+ Identify opportunities to improve efficiency in accounts receivable operations.
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills Required:
+ Education:
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a related field is strongly preferred.
+ Experience:
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience handling accounts receivable duties in a professional setting.
+ Experience within the freight, logistics, or transportation industry is a plus.
+ Technical Skills:
+ Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Oracle NetSuite, SAP, or similar).
+ Strong data entry accuracy and familiarity with Microsoft Excel for reporting purposes.
+ Interpersonal Skills:
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients and internal teams.
+ Problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or collaboratively to resolve payment issues.
+ Organizational Skills:
+ Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
