Description Robert Half is working with a Des Moines industrial company to hire an Accounting Supervisor. This Accounting Supervisor will play a pivotal role in overseeing daily accounting operations while mentoring other accounting professionals. Reporting to the Controller, this role focuses on ensuring compliance with financial policies, optimizing processes, and enhancing team operations — all within a dynamic and collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities: Supervisory Responsibility: + Guide and mentor Staff Accountants in utilizing accounting systems and understanding company policies. + Oversee the workflow of the accounting team, review completed tasks for accuracy, and ensure deadlines are met. + Serve as the primary escalation point for accounting queries and system issues. + Drive team performance by supporting professional development initiatives and assisting the Controller in team monitoring. Accounting Operations & Compliance (40% of Role): + Manage and ensure the timely, accurate processing of accounts payable and receivable. + Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial transactions for accuracy and compliance. + Oversee labor cost allocation and maintain the general ledger. + Administer accounting systems and actively participate in ERP system improvement initiatives. Reconciliations & Financial Reporting (30% of Role): + Lead account reconciliations, cash flow forecasting, and the month-end/year-end close processes. + Assist in compiling financial statements and conducting variance analyses, including budget-to-actual comparisons. + Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies. Cross-Functional Collaboration (10% of Role): + Coordinate with departments such as Operations, HR, and IT to address accounting-related needs and ensure smooth operational workflows. + Provide documentation and support during audits and compliance assessments. + Act as a backup for critical financial functions like payroll, tax compliance, and financial reporting. Core Competencies: + Strong leadership and mentoring abilities. + Advanced knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes. + Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems, and an understanding of how to optimize their use. + Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. + A keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively. Requirements Qualifications: + Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field + Experience: 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience + Prior experience or demonstrated aptitude for training, mentoring, or team leadership is a plus. + Strong command of Excel, financial reporting tools, and ERP software.
