Description We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This Contract-to-Permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic educational organization by managing key financial processes such as accounts payable, payroll, and reconciliations. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, demonstrate a high level of accountability, and excel in meeting deadlines.
Responsibilities:
• Process high-volume accounts payable transactions, including weekly check runs, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Assist with month-end close activities, including reconciling accounts and preparing financial reports.
• Conduct purchasing card (P-Card) audits for multiple users, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and correcting miscoded transactions.
• Reconcile activity and bank accounts on a regular basis to maintain accurate financial records.
• Support payroll operations by verifying data and ensuring compliance with established standards.
• Prepare documentation and assist in year-end audit processes, maintaining compliance with all regulations.
• Contribute to the implementation of a Purchase Order (PO) system, collaborating with vendors to streamline operations.
• Maintain and apply the chart of accounts consistently, ensuring proper categorization of financial transactions.
• Manage assigned tasks independently, meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results.
• Provide support for financial reporting and analysis as needed. Requirements • Proven experience in accounts payable (AP), including processing invoices and managing check runs.
• Familiarity with month-end close procedures, payroll processes, and year-end audit preparation.
• Strong skills in account reconciliation, including both bank and activity accounts.
• Knowledge of purchasing card (P-Card) audits and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in accounting software; advanced Excel skills are highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
• Prior experience in the education sector is a plus, but not required.
